The BCG pymetrics Test, Explained

Does BCG use pymetrics? Historically the US default — now office- and channel-dependent

BCG made pymetrics its US-office default for years: 12 games, about 25 minutes, with a 48-hour completion window — numbers from BCG’s own campus recruiting pages, not prep-site folklore. The 2024–2026 picture is transitional: BCG’s current US campus pages instruct applicants to complete a "Consultant Career Assessment" and an online case without naming pymetrics, while a "BCG Cognitive Test" is reported in German-speaking offices — yet experienced-hire candidates still report pymetrics invitations in recent cycles. Which test you receive now depends on office and channel; your invitation email names the platform. If it says pymetrics, every one of the 12 games is practicable below.

How the BCG process works

BCG’s official interview page lists only application, skill interview, case interview, and team interview — the online assessment layer is documented on its campus recruiting pages and by thousands of candidate reports. The commonly reported sequence for a US campus application:

  1. 1

    Application

Resume, office preferences, optional cover letter through BCG’s portal.

  2. 2

    pymetrics invitation

For US offices, BCG’s campus pages said the email invite arrives after you submit — candidates report anywhere from ~2 hours to a few weeks. You then have 48 hours to play.

  3. 3

    The 12 games (~25 min)

The standard pymetrics battery — Balloons, Money Exchange 1 & 2, Keypresses, Digits, Easy or Hard, Stop, Cards, Arrows, Lengths, Towers, Faces — in one sitting.

  4. 4

    Online case ("Casey") where used

Many candidates report a separate chatbot-style online case (~25–30 min, 8–10 questions plus a one-minute recorded recommendation). This is a different test from pymetrics.

  5. 5

    Case + fit interviews

Two rounds of interviewer-led cases and behavioral interviews for those who advance.

What’s verified — and what’s folklore

Most prep guides state everything with equal confidence. We label every claim with where it comes from, so you can tell BCG’s own words from prep-industry consensus and forum rumor.

"If you apply to a US BCG office, you will receive an email inviting you to play the pymetrics games… These 12 neuroscience-based games… take about 25 minutes to play, and you will have 48 hours to play them."

pymetrics results are valid ~330 days across every employer on the platform; within that window your existing gameplay is re-scored for new applications.

Results are weighed alongside your CV and cover letter rather than acting as a lone pass/fail gate; the invite goes to most applicants meeting minimum requirements.

BCG’s current US campus pages (e.g. MIT Sloan, Berkeley Haas) instruct applicants to "Complete the Consultant Career Assessment (CCA)" and an ~35-minute online case — pymetrics is not named on them.

What changed recently

2024–2026: BCG’s US campus pages switched to naming the Consultant Career Assessment (CCA); pymetrics is now best described as office- and channel-specific rather than the uniform default. Experienced-hire candidates still report pymetrics invites.

What candidates report

A Middle East applicant received the pymetrics link about two hours after applying, with a 48-hour window — coaches in the thread said the link goes to most applicants who meet minimum requirements.

PrepLounge, July 2023

Candidates consistently describe the games themselves as unchanged for years — the uncertainty is which assessment (pymetrics, CCA, or Cognitive Test) a given office sends.

BCG pymetrics FAQ

Does BCG still use pymetrics in 2026?

Office- and channel-dependent. BCG’s archived campus pages documented pymetrics as the US default (12 games, ~25 minutes, 48-hour window), but its current US campus pages name a Consultant Career Assessment and online case instead — while experienced-hire candidates still report pymetrics invites, and a BCG Cognitive Test is reported in German-speaking offices. Your invitation email names the platform; trust that.

How long do I have to complete the BCG pymetrics games?

48 hours after the invitation, per BCG’s own campus recruiting pages. Don’t start until you have ~30 uninterrupted minutes on a desktop.

Can BCG see my pymetrics results from another company?

pymetrics results are valid for about 330 days platform-wide. If you played the games for another employer in that window, your existing gameplay is re-scored against BCG’s profile rather than replayed — one more reason to practice before your first real battery anywhere.

Is there a passing score for BCG pymetrics?

No public cutoff exists. Coach reports suggest results are weighed alongside your CV rather than acting as a lone gate. pymetrics compares your trait profile against a role model built from BCG’s own data — there is no universal pass mark.

What is the difference between pymetrics and BCG’s Casey online case?

pymetrics is the 12-game behavioral battery. Casey is a separate chatbot-style online case assessment (~25–30 minutes with a recorded recommendation) reported at later stages. They test different things — the games measure behavioral traits; Casey tests case-solving.
