Inductive reasoning
SHL Inductive
reasoning practice.
SHL Inductive practice with original interactive puzzles. Track how a figure changes, connect a sequence of labeled nodes, and learn how to separate several rules that operate at once.
5 tasks · Learn at your pace
Start with a short drill. Submit each answer, inspect the worked solution, and try the next puzzle without a countdown.
15 tasks · 18 minutes
Practice under a continuous timer: an average of 72 seconds per task. Review your answers and the reasoning after you finish.
Two ways to work out the rule
Construct the next figure
Look for changes in position, shape and fill. Build the next frame by applying the rule for each feature, then check that it explains every earlier transition.
Connect the sequence
Follow the given connections and work out which node belongs next. Numbers, letters and alternating sequences can each carry part of the pattern.
Build a figure · Free worked example
This example is always free and does not use a practice attempt. Explore the controls, then reveal the rule.
Build the next figure
Read the figures in numbered order. Token A is the same token in every figure. Work out what changes, then construct the next figure.
Letters identify the same tokens from one figure to the next. They are not answer choices. Position numbers run clockwise from 1 at the top. “Outline” means an unfilled shape; “solid” means a filled shape.
Set token A’s position and fill in the next figure. Its shape remains a circle.
The next figure
Select a position on the board to place token A, or use the controls below. Set every feature that is asked for.
Token A: position not set, circle, fill not set
Connect a sequence · Free worked example
This example is always free and does not use a practice attempt. Explore the controls, then reveal the rule.
Connect the remaining nodes
The first three nodes are already connected. Find the relationship between their labels, then continue the path through each remaining node once.
The sequence begins
- B2
- D5
- F8
- → ?
Continue from the fixed starting nodes. Connect each remaining node once in the order that follows the rule.
Complete the path that starts B2 → D5 → F8.
Connect the sequence
Select the next node to draw a connection. You can also drag from the highlighted endpoint to the next node. With a keyboard, Tab to a node and press Enter or Space.
How to approach a difficult pattern
- Track one feature at a time. A change in position may follow a different cycle from a change in fill or shape.
- Test the whole sequence. A rule that fits the first two frames may fail at the third. Check every transition before committing.
- Look for alternating rules. Compare every other step when a single progression does not explain the sequence.
- Practice with the controls. Learn how to construct and revise an answer in a short drill before adding time pressure.
Which SHL inductive test does this prepare for?
SHL Verify Interactive Inductive Reasoning lasts 18 minutes and contains up to 15 interactive tasks. It uses adaptive testing. Our original practice uses an editorial progression in difficulty and does not reproduce SHL’s calibrated item bank or scoring.
The practice focuses on constructing patterns and completing node sequences. Check the exact assessment named in your invitation: SHL has offered other inductive formats, and its combined general-ability assessments cover additional skills.
What does a practice pass cover?
An SHL Inductive pass covers both practice modes. They share the same access allowance; your access is shown before starting. SHL Numerical and SHL Verbal have separate passes. Completed answers and explanations stay available after your pass expires.
Can I try the question style first?
Yes. The worked examples above are free, need no account and do not use a practice attempt. Your saved practice results report accuracy and time, without predicting an official score or an employer’s pass threshold.
