Free worked example · Balance a lever
A weightless horizontal beam pivots freely on the triangular support. A 20 N downward force acts 1 m to the left of the pivot. A second downward force acts 2 m to its right. Ignore friction; the drawing is schematic.
What downward force on the right would keep the beam balanced?
This separate example is free and does not use a practice attempt.
Preparing for the Bennett test
Pearson’s Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test II (BMCT-II) is an online assessment of mechanical reasoning and spatial perception, with 55 illustrated questions in 25 minutes. It is used for roles including skilled trades, engineering, maintenance and production.
Our original practice uses three answer choices, diagrams and a range of mechanical topics. The timed mode lets you return to questions and review your choices. The official assessment draws from an item bank; our forms and difficulty labels are editorial and do not reproduce Pearson’s item selection or scoring.
A Bennett practice pass covers the timed mode and all topic drills. It does not unlock other assessments. Your saved answers and explanations remain available after your pass ends.
Check the name and instructions in your employer’s invitation. The older BMCT and other mechanical aptitude tests can use different formats. This is independent preparation, not Pearson test content or an official score prediction.
