How Work-based Scenarios works

  • The real test has 12 workplace scenarios, each involving other people. For every scenario you rate how effective each possible action would be.
  • Each action is rated on its own, so two actions can share a rating. It measures how well you make decisions and judgments in work situations that involve other people.
  • It is untimed. The official test shows each scenario on video; ours are written, so you can focus on the judgment.
  • Our 36 scenarios cover all nine Civil Service Success Profiles behaviors. Each action earns 2 points for the keyed rating and 1 point for a rating one step away, and every keyed rating comes with its reasoning.
The four-level rating scale
RatingWhat it means
CounterproductiveAn unacceptable action that would make the situation worse
IneffectiveA poor action that would not help the situation
Partially effectiveA useful action that would be of some help to the situation
EffectiveA good action that would help to resolve the situation
