Workbook help and formulas
Use the range box for a selection such as B2:B8. Fill down copies the top row and adjusts relative references. Use $A$1 to keep a reference fixed. Formulas use English function names and commas.
Enter saves an edit and moves down. Tab moves right. Escape cancels an edit. F2 edits the selected cell. Undo restores the last workbook change.

Practice the work you need to do
Each task starts with a fresh workbook and a clear goal. Calculate an order total, clean a department label or summarize a small sales table. You make the changes directly in the sheet.
- Editable cells and calculated formulas
- Sorting, filtering, pivot summaries and charts
- Step-by-step solutions after practice
Turn mistakes into your next drill
Review which workbook requirements you completed and which need another look. Follow the solution, then replay the topic. Saved attempts let you compare your accuracy and completion over time.
Our full practice uses 30 tasks in 35 minutes. Check your invitation for the format, timing and tools used in your own assessment.
Understand different Excel assessment formatsCommon questions
What does an Excel assessment test?
The content depends on the role and provider. An invitation may describe knowledge questions, tasks in a simulated workbook, or an exercise in an actual spreadsheet file. This practice focuses on doing the work: editing cells, formulas, lookups, data cleaning, sorting, filtering, pivots and charts.
Do I need Microsoft Excel installed?
No. The practice workbook runs in your browser. Use a desktop or laptop for the most comfortable view of the worksheet and controls. It is an original, limited practice workbook; it does not open Excel files or reproduce every Microsoft Excel feature.
Can I try the practice for free?
The worked example and study guide are open to everyone. If your account includes first free attempts, you can take each short drill once. One Excel pass covers all seven drill replays and full timed practice. Your saved results remain available after a pass expires.
How long is the full practice test?
Our full practice contains 30 workbook tasks with a 35-minute clock. Short drills contain four tasks and are untimed. These counts and timing are our training format; use your own assessment invitation for its exact rules.
Is this an official Microsoft or SHL test?
No. These are original, independent spreadsheet tasks. Game Assessment Prep is not affiliated with Microsoft, SHL or any employer. This is preparation for Excel skills, not a copy of a particular provider’s test or a Microsoft certification exam.
How are my results scored?
Tasks check the requested workbook changes, such as a calculated value, formula references, formatting or chart settings. Some tasks contain several checks, so review the completed checks as well as the task total. Practice scores and training goals are not official pass marks or predictions of employer decisions.
