What is the ADF Job Opportunities Assessment?
The JOA is an online aptitude assessment in the Australian Defence Force application process. The official guide describes 51 numerical, verbal and abstract reasoning questions in 20 minutes. Its results help determine which job options may be available to you.
What question formats should I expect?
The official examples include typed numerical answers and questions that require exactly two selections. Our practice includes those formats alongside single-choice questions. It covers numerical, verbal and abstract reasoning with original questions.
How should I use the drills and full practice?
Start with an eight-question topic drill and read the explanations. Then use the full 51-question, 20-minute practice to work on pacing, skipping and returning to questions. Full practice gives feedback after the sitting ends.
What does an ADF JOA pass include?
One ADF JOA pass covers all 12 topic-drill replays and full timed practice for the selected period. Accounts with free first attempts can try each short drill once. Saved results and explanations stay available. Other assessment passes are separate.
Does my practice result show which ADF jobs I qualify for?
No. We report performance on our original practice questions. Our topic balance, difficulty and targets are editorial, not official ADF scoring or job-eligibility thresholds. ADF Careers determines your actual job options.
Can I prepare without military knowledge?
Yes. JOA practice focuses on numerical, verbal and abstract reasoning, not military facts. ADF Careers says the assessment does not require studying and does not endorse commercial preparation. These exercises offer familiarity with question formats and timed practice.
Can I retake the real JOA?
The official aptitude-testing guide says you can take the JOA up to three times, with six months between attempts. Check your current invitation and ADF Careers advice for your circumstances before making plans.
