Choose a short practice drill

Focus on one skill without a countdown. Drawing and reading drills keep the same source visible for a set of eight questions. Mathematical Usage is part of original CAST.

Choose the version in your invitation

CAST-R has three aptitude sections plus a separate Work Preferences Inventory. Original CAST has four aptitude sections. Each timed practice uses separate section clocks and shows feedback at the end.

The 80-minute CAST-R practice covers aptitude only. Try the free Work Preferences orientation for the separate inventory.

Practice one timed section

Work on completing one subject within its published section limit. Answers stay hidden until your selected test ends.

One EEI CAST / CAST-R pass covers both aptitude formats, all four subject tests and every drill replay. If your account includes free first attempts, you can try each short drill once.

Learn the method behind the answer

Review the drawings, passages, calculations and mechanical reasoning behind your answers. Use your section results to decide what to practice next.

Understand Work Preferences

If your invitation includes the CAST-R inventory, get familiar with agreement ratings and honest reflection. The examples are free and do not score your personality.

Common questions

What is the difference between CAST and CAST-R?

Original CAST has graphic arithmetic, mechanical concepts, reading comprehension and mathematical usage: 110 aptitude questions across 87 minutes of section time. CAST-R retains the first three aptitude sections and replaces mathematical usage with a Work Preferences Inventory. Its aptitude sections total 92 questions and 80 minutes; the separate inventory has 105 responses and a 30-minute allowance.

Which version should I practice?

Use the version and section names in your employer’s invitation. Choose CAST-R aptitude practice for graphic arithmetic, mechanical concepts and reading. Choose original CAST full practice if mathematical usage is also required. If your invitation simply says CAST, check its preparation guide before assuming a version.

Is the CAST-R practice the complete revised assessment?

The timed CAST-R practice here covers the three aptitude sections: 92 questions in 80 minutes. The Work Preferences Inventory is separate. We provide free, unscored work-preference examples to explain the response task, without inventing a personality answer key or fit score.

Can I use a calculator?

EEI’s current original CAST brochure permits a calculator in Graphic Arithmetic and Mathematical Usage. The CAST-R guide also permits one in Graphic Arithmetic. Our practice includes a calculator in the graphic and mathematical sections and their drills. Follow your employer’s instructions for the actual calculator model and setup.

Which practice attempts are free?

If your account includes free first attempts, you can try each short drill once. One EEI CAST / CAST-R pass covers both longer aptitude forms, all four subject tests and every drill replay. Some accounts require a pass before scored practice. The public example, study guide and work-preferences orientation are free.

When do I see answers and explanations?

In mechanical and mathematical drills, check an answer to reveal its explanation. Drawing and reading drills share one source across eight questions, so their explanations appear after the whole set. In every timed test, results and explanations stay hidden until the selected test ends.

Can I change an answer during timed practice?

You can review, flag and change answers within the current section before it ends. Once you finish a section or its clock expires, you cannot return to it. Each section has its own limit, and unused time does not carry forward. These are our practice controls; your actual assessment may use different navigation.

What score do I need to pass?

Employers set their requirements. EEI describes an index from 1 to 10, but the public guides do not publish a conversion we can apply to original practice questions. Our results show accuracy, section performance and improvement. They do not predict an official score, employer cutoff or hiring outcome.

Do I need to book a test through EEI?

EEI says employers administer its employment tests and provide results. Follow the application and testing instructions from your employer. This site provides independent preparation, not official test registration or a testing certificate.
