CCAT format and how our practice works
- Three reported skill categories — Verbal Ability, Math & Logic, and Spatial Reasoning — each with its own percentile, plus an overall raw score out of 50 and a percentile against a global norming group.
- Our practice form mixes the three categories. Its question distribution, difficulty progression and forward-only navigation are our design choices; they are not a verified blueprint of an official form.
- The practice includes quick decisions and harder multistep questions. We aim to stretch preparation beyond the real assessment, but have not calibrated that comparison. Use the explanations to improve your methods and pacing.
- No calculators. Pen and paper are fine.
- Delivered online through Criteria’s On Demand Assessment platform; some employers (Vertafore and PowerSchool per first-hand reports; Crossover as policy) follow up with a proctored, on-camera retake to verify the score.
Scoring and what employers see
Criteria reports the number correct and a percentile against its norming group. Employers set their own requirements. Our practice results use original questions and do not estimate that official percentile.

Who receives the official result?
Results go to the employer. Criteria’s candidate support cannot provide your score; ask the employer whether it shares results. There is no single score that guarantees progression for every job.

Applying to Crossover? Read this before you practice anywhere
Crossover requires the CCAT for virtually every role and follows it with a proctored retake (the PCCAT). Its rules, from its own guide and support FAQ: one attempt per email address in any six-month period; using multiple email addresses leads to rejection; scores are not disclosed. Its current CCAT guide names 12minprep.com as the exception to its ban on other preparation websites and warns of blacklisting for using banned resources. Follow Crossover’s official guidance and approved resources. Our practice test is not approved for Crossover applicants; this restriction is specific to Crossover.

How many questions are on the CCAT and how long is it?
50 multiple-choice questions in 15 minutes — about 18 seconds per question. The test covers verbal ability, math & logic and spatial reasoning. Calculators are not allowed.
How does your practice test handle skipped questions?
Our practice test uses forward-only navigation. You can submit an answer or skip, but cannot return to an earlier question during the sitting. Wrong, skipped and unanswered items earn no points, with no additional penalty. After the test, every question is available to review with its explanation.
What is a good CCAT score?
There is no universal pass mark. Criteria reports the number correct out of 50 and a percentile based on its own norming group; employers set their own requirements. Our original practice test reports your number correct on our questions, not an official CCAT percentile or predicted hiring result.
Do candidates get their CCAT score?
Usually not. Results go to the employer; Criteria support cannot share them, and Crossover’s own FAQ says it is unable to provide CCAT scores to candidates.
Is your practice test the real CCAT?
No. It is an independent CCAT-style practice test: 50 original verbal, math & logic and spatial questions in 15 minutes, no calculator and forward-only navigation. Every answer has a worked explanation. Your raw score is the number correct on our questions; these items have not been normed or equated to Criteria’s test, so it is not an official CCAT score or percentile. How difficult is your practice test?
We aim to make the full sitting a demanding preparation exercise, with quick questions alongside harder multistep reasoning. Our target is to stretch you beyond the actual CCAT, but that difficulty comparison has not been calibrated with test-taker data. Use the raw score, time pressure and worked explanations to guide your practice; do not convert your score into an expected official result.
Should Crossover applicants use the practice test?
No. Crossover’s current CCAT guide bans other preparation websites except 12minprep.com, which it explicitly approves. Follow Crossover’s official guide and the resources it permits; do not use our practice test for a Crossover application. This is Crossover’s employer-specific policy, not a rule for every CCAT employer.
