Try a police reasoning question

Original practice example

A fictional records office uses these rules: a request received before 3 p.m. on a business day is logged that day; one received at or after 3 p.m. is logged on the next business day. A complete request is due two business days after its logging date. An incomplete request is instead due two business days after the missing material arrives, regardless of its arrival time. Saturday and Sunday are not business days, and there are no holidays. An incomplete request arrives Friday at 2:40 p.m. Its missing attachment arrives Monday at 4:10 p.m. When is the request due?

Police exams are not all the same

Match your preparation to the examination named in your invitation. A police department, recruitment program and test provider are different things.

Start with the official notice

  1. 1. Identify the test

Find the exact exam name, test provider and recruitment cycle on your invitation or agency website.

  2. 2. Confirm your next deadline

Separate the application deadline, testing appointment and later selection stages. An old exam page may describe a closed cycle.

  3. 3. Practice the relevant skills

Try an example, read its explanation and note the reasoning step you missed. Use the official candidate guide to plan broader preparation.

Common questions

Which police exam should I prepare for?

Use the exact exam name and provider on your application notice or invitation. A state, county or police department can use a different process from its neighbors. Start with the relevant guide below, then follow the linked official recruitment notice.

Are these full police practice tests?

These pages provide recruitment guides and original, interactive teaching examples. They are not complete LEAB, NCJOSI² or department-specific test simulations. You can try the examples and review their explanations without signing in.

Can one practice score tell me whether I will pass?

No. A few examples cannot predict your result on a full examination, your rank on an eligible list or an appointment. Use them to understand a reasoning method, then prepare for the format and selection stages in your current notice.

Is California PELLETB practice the same as these exams?

No. PELLETB is a California POST entry-level reading and writing test. We have a separate PELLETB practice product, but it is not a replacement for a New Jersey or New York police exam.

Independent guidance and original teaching examples, not a full police exam simulation. Official sources and review dates appear in each guide. Not affiliated with police agencies, exam providers or CCS Test Prep.
