    Start with the target

    Check its row and column. Any shape already there cannot go in the question-mark cell.

    Use another cell when needed

    If several shapes still fit the target, look for a forced placement elsewhere. Carry that new information back to the target.

    Keep deductions certain

    A shape fitting one empty cell does not mean it must go there. Follow the constraints until only one target answer remains.

    Review the chain

    Our explanations identify cells by row and column. Compare each deduction with the original clues and find the step you missed.

What is Aon gapChallenge?

gapChallenge is Aon’s deductive-logical thinking assessment. You use a rule—each shape appears once per row and once per column—to work out the shape hidden behind a question mark. Aon publishes a six-minute assessment, with four-by-four and five-by-five grids. This is independent preparation using original puzzles.

Is gapChallenge the same as scales lst?

Aon describes gapChallenge as a gamified version of its scales lst assessment, with changes to the candidate experience. The underlying task uses row and column constraints. Check the name and instructions in your invitation; our timed practice follows the published gapChallenge mechanics.

Do I have to complete the entire grid?

Only the question-mark cell is scored. Other empty cells can help you reason, but they may have more than one valid arrangement. Each original puzzle here has exactly one possible answer for its question-mark cell across every valid completion. There are no Sudoku box rules.

How does the timed practice work?

The timer runs for six minutes. Selecting an answer submits it and opens the next puzzle immediately; you cannot change a submitted answer. Solve as many puzzles as you can, then review your work. The clock continues in background tabs and after reloads. The six-puzzle learning mode has no timer and shows an explanation after each answer.

Is gapChallenge part of the four smartPredict games?

gapChallenge is a separate Aon product. The four smartPredict games are Grid, Switch, Digit and Motion Challenge. Our gapChallenge practice has its own pass, separate from the pass for those four games.

What is free, and which pass covers this practice?

The worked example is free without an account and does not consume a practice attempt. Your full practice access is shown before starting. A dedicated gapChallenge pass covers timed and learning practice for its selected period. Saved answers and explanations stay free after the pass ends.

Will my practice result predict my assessment score?

Results show how many original puzzles you answered correctly and your time on them. Our difficulty progression is a practice design, not Aon’s calibrated adaptive assessment. We do not provide official scores, percentiles, employer cutoffs or hiring predictions.
