What is the RAF Defence Aptitude Assessment?
The DAA is an aptitude assessment used in RAF recruitment, replacing the Airmen Selection Test. It covers verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, work rate, spatial reasoning, electrical comprehension and mechanical comprehension. Required scores depend on the role.
How long is the RAF DAA?
The real-test limits published in the RAF familiarization add up to 128 questions and 69 timed minutes across eight blocks. Numerical and spatial reasoning each have two parts. Allow additional time for instructions and transitions. The official online familiarization is shorter.
How should I use the drills and full practice?
Start with an eight-question drill in an area you want to improve, then use its explanations to review your method. Full practice combines all eight blocks using the published counts and time limits. Feedback appears after the sitting ends.
What does one RAF DAA pass include?
One RAF DAA pass covers replays of all eight drills and full timed practice for the selected period. Accounts with free first attempts can try each short drill once. Full practice requires a pass. Other assessment passes are separate.
Can I skip questions or change an answer?
In our full practice, you can skip, revisit and change answers within the current block. Submitting the block or reaching its time limit locks those answers. There is no answer feedback between blocks. Follow your RAF invitation and on-screen instructions for the actual assessment’s navigation rules.
Can I use a calculator?
Practice the numerical blocks without a calculator. The RAF familiarization’s numerical instructions prohibit calculators and multifunction watches and permit pencil and paper for calculations.
Does my practice score show which RAF roles I qualify for?
No. Your results describe your performance on our original questions. Our difficulty levels and learning targets are editorial, not official RAF pass marks or percentiles. RAF recruitment determines your eligibility for a role.
Does this include RAF CBAT preparation?
No. This package covers the DAA. CBAT is a separate assessment process, and some roles also require specialist selection stages. Check your role page and invitation for the assessments you need.
What device should I use?
Use a laptop, desktop or large tablet so tables and diagrams are easy to read. The RAF says the actual DAA can be taken using your own IT or at an Armed Forces Careers Office. Your invitation provides the requirements for your assessment.
Are these official RAF questions?
No. Our questions and worked examples are original practice material. This product is independent of the RAF and Ministry of Defence. The official RAF familiarization linked here is a useful place to see the published formats.
