Take the MinterEllison mock interviewHow the MinterEllison hiring process works
Candidates apply online through MinterEllison's Careers Portal with a CV and recent academic results, choosing one office per year; clerkships are aimed at penultimate- and final-year law students, and legal programs add short written "additional questions" to the application form. Within 24-48 hours of submitting, applicants receive an invitation from HireVue to complete a games-based psychometric assessment of roughly 10 minutes, which the firm says measures cognitive abilities — mental agility, reasoning, visual and spatial awareness — and emotional intelligence. Which specific HireVue games appear is not confirmed, and HireVue configurations can change between intakes.
Next comes the HireVue one-way video assessment, which replaced the firm's old first-round in-person interview according to HireVue's case study. Officially it takes about 20 minutes including instructions and practice attempts, with roughly 2 minutes to answer each question, one re-record allowed per question (you cannot choose between takes), unlimited practice questions beforehand, the option to submit early, and the ability to resume from the same link if your connection drops. Recordings are reviewed by the HR team. One candidate report describes the round as 3 questions, though the firm's pages give timing but no count, so the exact number may vary.
Candidates who progress move to in-person interviews with partners, senior associates and the Talent (HR) team, which the firm says probe key competencies, technical skills, teamwork experience, interpersonal ability and business acumen; candidate reports describe a first interview with a partner and HR and a second with two partners. Offers go out on state-coordinated dates (for the 2026 clerkship cycle, for example, NSW on 9 September and VIC on 15 October). Two cautions on scope: a lateral-hire report describes a recruiter call, Teams interview and face-to-face meeting with no HireVue stage, so this process is best evidenced for clerkship and graduate programs; and MinterEllisonRuddWatts in New Zealand is a separate, allied firm whose process involves no video interview or games assessment.
