BCG video interview questions

12 researched questions — 9 reported by real candidates or published by BCG. Updated August 2026.

  1. 1Advanced-degree and campus deadlines: pymetrics — twelve short mini-games taking roughly 20–30 minutes — was officially required alongside the video in the 2021–22 cycle; the vendor was acquired by Harver in 2022 and no current official BCG page we could verify still names it, so treat it as office-dependent and declining.

The BCG hiring process at a glance

  1. 1Online application — Resume and cover letter submitted by the posted application deadline.
  2. 2Online assessments — pymetrics skills games within 48 hours of applying on advanced-degree/campus tracks; Casey Online Case Experience (~30 min) and, for Associates, the Consulting Career Assessment (~30 min) in offices such as Mexico.
  3. 3One-way video interview (Spark Hire) — Invite emailed 1–2 days after the deadline, 48 hours to complete, whole session under 45 minutes, behavioural rather than case-based.
  4. 4First-round interviews — Case and experience interviews; two to three 45-minute cases per round in some offices.
  5. 5Final round and offer — A further round of case interviews with senior interviewers, then decision — reported as two to three weeks end-to-end in Mexico.

How the BCG hiring process works

For advanced-degree and campus-deadline applications in North America, BCG's own guide describes a fixed sequence: submit the online application with resume and cover letter by the deadline, complete the pymetrics online skills assessment within 48 hours of applying (the invitation is sent automatically within about 24 hours), and complete the one-way video interview after the deadline. The video invitation arrives by email 1–2 days after the application deadline, and candidates have 48 hours from that prompt to finish. BCG states that both the games and the video are required for the application to count as complete, and that candidates hear about status roughly 3–4 weeks after the deadline.

The video round itself runs on Spark Hire. Candidates click an emailed link that opens the platform in a browser, grant webcam and microphone access, watch a welcome video and tutorial, and complete a practice question before the real ones begin. Questions appear as text on screen and are answered by recording; BCG says all applicants receive the same questions and that the round is explicitly not a case interview — it asks about experiences you have had and goals you are pursuing. The full session including setup should take no more than 45 minutes, and the interview can be paused between questions and resumed later. Anything still in progress when the deadline hits is deemed incomplete, so BCG recommends starting at least five hours early. A webcam is required; laptop or desktop is recommended, with iOS and Android supported, and 24/7 technical support is offered through a request form inside the platform. Question count, per-question answer time and retakes are not stated officially: candidates report about three questions (with five reported for an internship), unlimited thinking time before recording, and 2–3 minutes to answer, while retake allowances conflict between reports and should be assumed to vary by invite.

BCG's assessment stack also includes a separate piece of recorded video that is easy to confuse with the one-way interview. The Online Case Experience, official on BCG's Mexico careers page, is an interactive business case guided by Casey, a chatbot, taking about 30 minutes and conducted in English. Candidate and prep reporting describes one case broken into roughly 8–10 sequential questions that cannot be revisited, closing with a webcam-recorded final recommendation of about 60 seconds with a short preparation window and a single attempt. Associates in that process also take the Consulting Career Assessment, officially described as roughly 30 minutes with no preparation needed and currently exclusive to Associate recruiting. Anyone preparing should treat the Casey closing recording and the Spark Hire one-way interview as two distinct exercises.

Regional variation is the dominant feature of the BCG pipeline, and there is no single global funnel. BCG's Mexico page routes candidates from application straight into the online assessments the weekend after the deadline, then two to three 45-minute case interviews in a first round and the same again in a final round, with the whole process typically taking two to three weeks; it mentions no video stage. Switzerland documents a 30-minute multiple-choice cognitive test covering numerical, verbal and logical skills about a month before interviews, followed by a virtual 45-minute case and three in-person case interviews in Zurich. Brazil documents a 75-minute online test combining GMAT-style questions, a business case section and English, then screening and interview rounds. BCG's global interview-process page lists only application, skill interview, case interview and team interview. Practise the one-way video if you are applying through an advanced-degree or campus deadline, Bridge to BCG, or an internship track, and confirm from your own invitation email which stages your cycle actually includes.

Best-supported scope: One-way (asynchronous) video interview on the Spark Hire platform, documented by BCG's own candidate materials for advanced-degree and campus-deadline applications and for Bridge to BCG, with candidate reports adding internship and Visiting Associate tracks. Not a global stage: BCG's current office-level pages for Mexico, Switzerland and Brazil, and the global interview-process page, describe no video round at all. Treat the video as program-, office- and cycle-specific, and possibly historical rather than current practice.
