Candidates apply online at careers.blackrock.com, where review is rolling — summer internship applications are reviewed from February and full-time analyst applications from September. After applying, candidates receive a link to the pre-interview assessment, a HireVue on-demand video interview with questions based on the program applied to. It must be completed in one sitting within 5 days of applying; missing the deadline automatically withdraws the application. There are no retakes once a response is submitted. Officially, each question gives about 3 minutes to prepare; the EMEA and APAC FAQs allow up to 90 seconds per answer (under 10 minutes total), while the Americas FAQ allows up to 3 minutes per answer (under 15 minutes total), so expect answer length to vary by region and cycle — some candidates also report configurations like 3 minutes prep with 2 minutes to speak.
Regional and role differences matter. In the Americas, one pre-interview assessment covers all functions you apply to; in EMEA, an assessment is required per function, answered in English. For roles in Japan, the assessment is completed in both English and Japanese; other APAC roles are in English. Software Engineering and Analytics/Modeling applicants instead complete a HireVue coding test — roughly 60 minutes, within a 5-day window — that includes coding questions plus one recorded video question, all in one sitting.
Candidates who pass the video stage move to first-round interviews with representatives of their function, anchored on the BlackRock Principles and on experience and capabilities. Final rounds may include a group exercise, presentation, or case study per official student pages, and candidate reports describe Superdays of back-to-back behavioral and technical interviews. Offers are made on a rolling basis. Notably, BlackRock's pipeline includes no game-based assessments — preparation should target the recorded video (and the coding test for engineering and analytics roles).
