Take the Amazon mock interviewHow the Amazon hiring process works
The Amazon hiring process differs sharply by region and programme, and only one funnel is documented as using a recorded video interview. For UK apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships, Amazon publishes a five-stage pipeline: an online application with CV upload, eligibility questions and a short workstyles assessment; an online assessment Amazon describes as using scientific methods to measure problem-solving, how you handle emotions and your interests; a game-based assessment of personality where game-like tasks are meant to show natural behaviour or ability in action; the on-demand video interview; and a virtual assessment centre with a group exercise, presentation, practical task and one-to-one interviews with managers from the teams you could be aligned to. Amazon says the first assessment has an expiry date but no deadline, while every subsequent stage carries a strict five-day deadline that cannot be extended.
The Amazon video interview itself is asynchronous. You follow a link, questions are presented on screen, and you record spoken answers to three questions on a laptop, tablet or phone — there is no interviewer on the call. Amazon scopes the content to motivations and transferable skills, and separately says the video stage helps it understand your academic abilities, why you think Amazon is a good fit and why you are interested in your chosen programme. Timing details are configurable and only candidate-reported: candidates commonly describe about a minute per answer with untimed preparation before each recording, and one commonly cited figure is a 12-hour window to finish once you begin, inside the overall five-day stage deadline. Whether you can re-record is genuinely unsettled — candidate posts describe retakes, while at least one commercial prep site says you get a single attempt — so plan your first take as if it counts. Amazon does not name the platform anywhere candidate-facing, so treat any vendor claim about the Amazon apprenticeship video with caution.
Two things frequently confused with the Amazon video interview are not video interviews at all. The Amazon Work Sample Simulation — often searched as the "Amazon job simulation assessment" — is a scenario and inbox-style online assessment where you interpret data from a chart, answer a customer question, choose how to resolve an issue, multitask or find the right information from multiple sources; Amazon puts it at 20 minutes to one hour, and nothing is recorded. The Work Style Assessment is a 10 to 20 minute forced-choice questionnaire built around Amazon's Leadership Principles. Note the naming collision: the apprenticeship funnel's first-stage "workstyles assessment" shares a name with the corporate Work Style Assessment but sits in a different pipeline. Amazon's game-based assessment is officially confirmed for UK apprenticeships; the vendor behind it is widely reported to be Arctic Shores, but Amazon does not confirm this and the claim rests on prep-site and forum sources.
For corporate, technology and AWS roles, the documented process is online application, then role-relevant assessments, then a phone screen, then an interview loop of typically four to six interviews of 45 to 60 minutes that includes a Bar Raiser acting as an objective third party with veto authority; some roles add a written exercise submitted ahead of the loop. Amazon states these interviews take place on Zoom or Amazon Chime, both synchronous conferencing tools, and AWS says it aims to get back to candidates within two business days after a phone interview. US hourly and warehouse hiring through hiring.amazon.com has no interview and no assessment in Amazon's own description at all: an application of about twenty minutes with no resume, then an in-person pre-hire appointment, then a contingent offer with background check. Third parties mention a "virtual job preview" for hourly roles, but that is content you watch, not a video you record. Outside the UK, no official Amazon page describes an on-demand video stage, so treat the recorded-video prompts below as UK early-careers material rather than general Amazon interview questions.
About this research
- Researched questions
- 12 — 12 officially published or candidate-reported
- Typical format
- One-way video; a common setup is 30s prep + ~2 min answers. Employers configure their own timing, question count, and retakes.
- Research updated
- August 2026 · part of our evidence-labeled video-interview question bank
Best-supported scope: UK apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships only. Amazon's own apprenticeship site names an "On-demand Video Interview" stage in which candidates record answers to three questions about their motivations and transferable skills. Amazon's corporate, tech and AWS funnels are documented as live-only (Zoom or Amazon Chime), and the well-known Work Sample Simulation is a click-and-choose online assessment, not a video interview.
These are questions you may encounter — paraphrased from public, dated sources. No one can guarantee the exact questions in your interview, and we never claim to.
