How the Walmart hiring process works

For hourly store, Sam's Club and distribution-centre roles, you apply on careers.walmart.com — Walmart says the application averages 20-25 minutes, no resume is required but job history is, and you cannot edit it after submitting. Some positions then require an online assessment immediately after the application; for retail roles this is the Retail Associate Assessment, and candidate reports consistently describe roughly 65 multiple-choice situational-judgment items where you rate workplace responses from most to least effective. Reports vary, but a failed assessment is commonly said to carry a wait of around six months before you can reapply, which makes the assessment the main filter in this funnel.

Walmart says hourly applications stay active for 60 days, and its FAQ puts a typical response at around a week. The next step reported by candidates is a live interview — in person, roughly 20-40 minutes, with one or two managers — built around behavioural STAR questions scored against Walmart's values of service, excellence, integrity and respect. Offers are contingent on a background check, with a drug screen for some roles, followed by orientation. Candidate accounts commonly put the whole hourly process at one to three weeks. There is no one-way video round documented anywhere in this funnel.

Corporate and campus tracks branch. After the application and, where required, an assessment — a situational-judgment test for corporate tracks or a HackerRank challenge for technology roles — some organisations run a recruiter phone or live video screen while others use a one-way HireVue video interview. That recorded round is documented by candidates for Walmart Connect ad sales and for some finance and analyst tracks, and one report describes it opening with behavioural prompts and closing with a short case scenario. Employers configure HireVue themselves, and no readable source establishes Walmart's own question count, preparation time, answer length or retake policy, so treat any specific timing you see elsewhere as a platform default rather than a Walmart fact.

Later corporate rounds are live. Candidates describe two to three or more interviews: behavioural panels for most tracks, a sales or "convincing" presentation across roughly three 30-minute rounds for Walmart Connect, a corporate-finance case for analytical roles, and Karat plus design and coding loops for Walmart Global Tech. Walmart Global Tech is explicitly reported not to use one-way video at all — recruiter screen, then a live HackerRank or Karat technical screen, then live virtual loops. Reported end-to-end timelines run around 39 days for Walmart Connect and up to about 66 days for Global Tech. No region-specific evidence was gathered for Walmart Canada, Mexico or other international funnels.

Best-supported scope: Walmart corporate and salaried tracks only — Walmart Connect ad sales and some finance/analyst and corporate campus roles report a one-way HireVue video interview. Hourly store, Sam's Club and distribution centre applicants take the Retail Associate Assessment and then a live interview, not a recorded video round.
