Take the Dyson mock interviewHow the Dyson hiring process works
For Dyson's graduate, intern, and apprentice programmes, candidates apply online at careers.dyson.com and, after screening, shortlisted applicants are invited to a Digital Assessment on HireVue. Officially, this combines a one-way (pre-recorded) video interview with a game-based assessment, and some programmes add a coding challenge. The invitation email includes a "Practice or Interview" button with three generic practice questions that can be redone as many times as needed, and candidates can request accommodations directly in HireVue — Dyson grants 25% extra time. Unusually, Dyson sends every digital-assessment candidate a personalised report summarising performance in each competency assessed.
Candidate reports describe the video portion as roughly 5-7 questions plus 2 game sessions, typically with about 1 minute of preparation and up to 3 minutes to answer; one report mentions 3 attempts per question. Dyson does not publish official question counts or timings for this stage, and configurations appear to vary by programme and region, so treat these figures as indicative rather than guaranteed.
The game-based assessments are HireVue's own games (there is no evidence Dyson uses pymetrics, Cappfinity, or SHL). Candidates describe "mathematical, pattern, memory and shape games" and fast-reaction number and shape-matching games, usually two short game sessions. Reports also vary by role and region: UK design-engineering candidates report being asked to sketch a mechanism on camera during the video interview, and a Philippines intern report describes a short programming minigame after the video questions — consistent with Dyson's official note that some programmes include a coding challenge. Candidates who pass the digital assessment move to a final-stage interview with a technical exercise or business challenge plus situational and motivational questions, with personalised feedback offered afterwards.
The Dyson Institute undergraduate (degree apprenticeship) route follows its own officially published, dated pipeline: online application, then online assessments (a ~15-minute game-based psychometric assessment covering numerical ability and behaviours, plus a ~30-minute multiple-choice technical assessment applying A Level Maths to real Dyson engineering problems), then a live ~20-minute virtual interview with a Dyson Institute team member focused on motivation, and finally an assessment day at Malmesbury with a group task, technical interview, and strengths-based interview. In the current cycle the Institute's virtual interview is live, not a one-way recording.
