New Jersey State Police exam and selection guide
New Jersey State Police recruitment follows its own selection process. It is not the municipal civil-service LEE, and an old trooper study guide does not establish today’s exact examination format. Start with current NJSP instructions, then practice accurate reading and rule application while preparing for the wider selection process.

Prepare for the process you are actually entering
NJSP describes application screening, a physical qualification test, a written examination and further investigation and selection stages. Treat each appointment as a separate requirement. A written practice score does not establish physical eligibility, clear a background investigation or guarantee an offer.
Public search results include older NJSP brochures and study guides. They can be useful historical context, but a dated list of sections should not override your current invitation. Keep a copy of the instructions supplied for your own cycle and check them before using a detailed mock examination.
Develop precise reading and decision habits
When a question gives a rule, use that rule exactly. Separate the facts of the scenario from any real-world knowledge you brought to it. Identify which conditions are mandatory, which are exceptions and which are merely descriptive. A neat checklist often prevents more errors than rereading the same paragraph several times.
For a sequence, map the required order before considering an answer. For a passage, identify the evidence supporting each claim. If a task asks about your own past behavior or experience, answer truthfully rather than transferring the idea of an objective answer key to a personal questionnaire. These exercises build foundations; they do not simulate every NJSP assessment or teach operational police procedures.
How to prepare
1. Read current NJSP instructions
Confirm the recruitment stage and the materials supplied for your own cycle, rather than using a LEE timetable.
2. Practice careful rule application
Try a few untimed examples and write out the condition that supports each answer.
3. Review errors and vary the task
Work on fresh passages and sequences. Look for repeated mistakes with exceptions, negations or unsupported assumptions.
4. Plan the complete appointment
Use the official schedule for travel, arrival, identification and permitted items; keep the other selection requirements separate.
The current public selection page does not confirm a detailed question-count blueprint. These examples teach foundations and are not a full NJSP examination.
Common questions
Is the State Trooper exam included in NJ LEE?
No. The NJ Civil Service Commission explicitly identifies New Jersey State Trooper as a separate recruitment and testing process.
Can I rely on an old NJSP study guide?
Use it only with its date and limitations in mind. The current public selection page does not confirm that an older section list or timing remains unchanged.
Are these examples a situational-judgment test?
No. They are objective foundation exercises using supplied information and rules. They are not a validated judgment assessment or a substitute for current NJSP preparation materials.
