Sea Wolf simulation

Site Treatment is our timed simulation of the Sea Wolf format. Treat three contaminated sites in 30 minutes, each with three microbes whose average attributes must land inside the site’s ranges.

What the Sea Wolf is

Sea Wolf, also called Ocean Cleanup, is the second module on the default 65-minute invitation. For each of three ocean sites you build a treatment of exactly three microbes. Each microbe has three numeric attributes from 1 to 10 and one trait. The treatment’s average on each attribute must fall inside the site’s range, at least one microbe must carry the desired trait, and none may carry the undesired one.

Prep sources agree on the steps at each site: profile two characteristics, sort ten microbes, build a pool of ten through pick-one-of-three rounds, and choose the final three. Attribute and trait names change between sittings, so ours are drawn fresh each time.

How our simulation runs

  1. An untimed briefing shows the shortcut: multiply each range bound by three and compare it with the sum of three values.
  2. Profile: choose two of the seven characteristics (three attributes, four traits). The choice sorts the grid and is logged.
  3. Categorize: send ten microbes to this site, the next site or rejection. A badge shows what the next site wants.
  4. Build the pool: start with six microbes and run four rounds of pick one of three to reach ten.
  5. Treatment: choose three of the ten with live sums for every check, then submit. Each site starts at 100% and loses 20 points per missed check.
  6. Carry-over at sites 2 and 3: microbes you tagged for the next site are shown against its requirements. Up to two join your starting six, and each one replaces a pick round.
  7. Review: effectiveness per site out of 300, every missed check, and every 100% treatment that was reachable from your pool and with the best picks.

Sea Wolf questions

What is Sea Wolf in McKinsey Solve?

Sea Wolf, also called Ocean Cleanup, is a constraint module on the default 65-minute invitation. At each of three ocean sites you choose three microbes whose average attributes fall inside the site’s target ranges, including at least one with the desired trait and none with the undesired trait.

How long is Sea Wolf?

Candidates report 30 minutes shared across the three sites, after an untimed tutorial. Site Treatment runs on one 30-minute clock for all three sites. Older reports of 35 minutes describe the earlier Ocean Cleanup version.

What is free?

Your first Site Treatment attempt is free with an account, and the walkthrough on this page needs no account. A McKinsey Solve pass covers replays of every module simulation and the 65-, 85- and 95-minute full sittings, and saved reviews stay free.

What does the review show?

Each site’s effectiveness and the checks it missed, your profile, sorting and pool choices, and every treatment that reached 100%: those you could still build from the microbes in your pool, and those reachable with the best picks. The working uses the sum shortcut, so you can check each mean yourself.
