McKinsey Solve practice
Timed simulations of every Solve module on original content, three full sittings that match the 65-, 85- and 95-minute invitations, and two untimed warm-up drills. Every sitting ends with a saved worked review.
Practice instructions
- Read the untimed briefing before each module. Its clock begins only when you explicitly start that module.
- Answers record as you work. Each module tells you which steps lock when you continue.
- Clocks keep running during tool use, in background tabs and after reloads. Refreshing never resets a clock.
- Each new sitting varies the original content. Full worked feedback appears after you finish.
Data-study warm-up · Free worked example
Read the study brief and exhibits. Record useful facts in the journal and use the calculator to check your working. Both tools stay available throughout the module.
Type numerical answers in the unit shown beside each input. For a percentage, enter 25 for 25%, not 0.25. Round only the final answer to the requested number of decimal places. Answers are compared at that precision; exact halves round away from zero. Choices record as soon as you select them.
You may revisit questions within the current stage. Moving from the study to the mini-cases locks the study answers; you cannot return. Each mini-case has its own source exhibits. Feedback appears after the sitting ends.
Worked example
A survey counted 80 animals and later counted 100. Percentage increase = (100 − 80) ÷ 80 × 100 = 25%. For an answer in percent to one decimal place, enter 25.0. The later count is not the denominator.
Constraint-team warm-up · Free worked example
For each site, read its three numerical ranges, desired trait and forbidden trait. Screen nine candidates into a shortlist of six, then lock the shortlist and draft a team of three.
Each numerical range applies to the team average, including both endpoints. At least one member must have the desired trait; no member may have the forbidden trait. Averages alone are not enough.
Among teams meeting all five constraints, aim for the closest numerical match to the listed targets. The objective adds the absolute distance between each attribute’s team total and three times its target. Lower is better. A tied best team is equally valid.
Your shortlist cannot change once drafting starts. Excluding the wrong candidates can leave no team that meets every constraint. Selecting three cards records a draft; choose Submit team to submit it and continue. Feedback appears at the end. Our nine → six → three workflow is an original practice exercise.
Worked example
For a range of 4–6, candidates with values 3, 5 and 7 have an average of 5, so that range is met. If one has the forbidden trait, the team still fails that separate check. Check all attributes and traits together.
