What to expect in the Mizuho assessment

There are no confirmed games. Mizuho publishes no vendor, no format and no exercise names for its online-testing stage, and no source we could read names a single task in it. Some candidates report an Arctic Shores task-based assessment; that is unconfirmed and we will not build a game list on it.

What follows is conditional category practice: useful if your invitation turns out to name one of these platforms, and honest about the fact that none of them is known to be Mizuho’s test.

This is the platform some candidates report, and the one worth a practice session if your invitation confirms it. Arctic Shores runs short task-based exercises rather than timed questions, and employers pick different subsets, so no one can tell you Mizuho’s lineup even if the vendor is right. Play a spread of the task types to get used to the format: instructions first, no right-or-wrong feel, and behavior measured while you play. Treat this as conditional practice only.

Banking online tests are as often conventional numerical and reasoning batteries as they are games, and nothing in Mizuho’s wording rules that out. Timed arithmetic, percentages, ratios and reading figures out of tables are the shared mechanics; a mixed timed sitting trains the pacing discipline. These are other publishers’ formats, so use them for speed and accuracy under a clock rather than for question style.

This is the one online stage Mizuho does describe, and the one where preparation reliably pays. Two or three questions, about two minutes each, no interviewer to read. Rehearse out loud against a timer rather than writing scripts you will read off-camera, and have one finance or markets story ready that you can genuinely explain, because "something you have recently read or learned" is the question candidates name most often.

Which Mizuho roles and programs does this guide cover?

Mizuho is a Japanese banking group whose UK early-career hiring, for Mizuho Bank and Mizuho International in London, is outsourced to the Graduate Recruitment Bureau. GRB hosts the listings, takes the application, issues the online test and sends the video-interview link; Mizuho runs the assessment center and makes the offer. The published sequence has been identical across the 2026 and 2027 cycles.

The open question is the test itself. Mizuho’s careers page calls stage two "Online Testing", says it is administered by GRB, and stops there. Every live GRB listing says only "Online assessment & video interview". Some candidates report that this stage was an Arctic Shores task-based assessment.

We could not confirm it: the candidate reports sit on pages that would not load for us, Arctic Shores does not name Mizuho in its own client material, and Mizuho has never published a vendor. Prep sites that state Arctic Shores as fact are doing so on the same unverified basis.

That matters practically, because you cannot prepare for a specific battery you cannot confirm. This page gives you every stage that is officially documented, the dates for the 2027 cycle as they stood on 11 September 2026, what candidates describe at the video interview and assessment center, and honest category practice for an unnamed online test. Your invitation email is the only document that names the platform.

Mizuho Internship Programme 2027 (London, EMEA)

A 10-week summer internship starting June 1, 2027 for penultimate-year students graduating in 2028, on track for a 2:1, with permanent right to work in the UK (no sponsorship). Tracks listed by Mizuho and GRB include Banking, Global Markets, Risk and European Credit, Finance, Audit, EMEA Operations, IT Business Analyst, IT Developer, IT Risk, Cybersecurity, Product Control, Global Transactions and Human Resources. The program includes markets and operations training, technical and soft-skills sessions, a buddy, and rotation across teams.

GRB describes it as a direct route to the graduate program.

Mizuho Graduate Programme (London)

The main route in is conversion from the summer internship: Mizuho says top-performing interns get the chance to secure a place on the Graduate Programme for the following year, so 2027 interns are hired for the 2028 intake rather than the year they intern. Mizuho also posts occasional direct graduate roles outside that pipeline; the most recent example, a Global Markets Structured Financing Graduate Analyst in London, closed on September 8, 2026 and is not an open opportunity.

No 2027 direct-entry graduate scheme was advertised on GRB or Mizuho’s own pages on 11 September 2026.

Cyber Security Apprentice, Level 4 (London) — a different process

Mizuho’s Level 4 Cyber Security Technologist apprenticeship is recruited through the Early Talent Academy, not GRB, and its published stages are a telephone call with the Early Talent Academy and then a Discovery Day at Mizuho’s London office in October. No online test is named at all. A-levels or equivalent, ideally STEM, no prior experience required; the deadline was September 14, 2026 and it could close early.

Mizuho Americas Summer Analyst and Full-Time Analyst programs (US) — no games reported

A separate pipeline with a separate process. Mizuho Americas runs an 11-week Summer Analyst Program across Investment and Corporate Banking, M&A and Restructuring tracks (Mizuho | Greenhill) in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Houston, a three-year Full-Time Analyst Program with direct group placement, Markets programs in New York, and an 11-week MBA Summer Associate Program. The official campus page describes no selection stages and gives no dates; it directs applicants to their university career office or Workday.

Prep sites describe a resume screen, a video or phone first round and a New York Superday, and they disagree with each other on timing. No game-based assessment is reported anywhere in the US process.

Japan domestic new-graduate hiring — an entirely separate pipeline

Mizuho’s Japanese shukatsu hiring for Mizuho FG, Mizuho Bank and Mizuho Securities is unrelated to the UK process on this page: it uses entry-sheet screening, multiple interview rounds and a conventional Japanese web test, with the SHL-Japan Tamatebako test reported most often alongside SPI and TAL. No game-based assessment is reported there either. Do not use the UK stages, dates or preparation on this page for a Japanese application.

That is the entire official description. No vendor, no format, no time limit, no number of exercises, no scoring guidance.

Every live 2027-cycle GRB listing compresses the middle of the process to one line: "Online assessment & video interview". The 2026-cycle listings used the same wording, so nothing has changed between cycles and no listing has ever named a platform.

The Arctic Shores reports, and why we will not state them as fact

Single source

Some candidates report that the online-testing stage was an Arctic Shores task-based assessment. Those reports appear only on candidate-review pages that blocked every route we tried, so we have never read one in full; the excerpts that exist trace back to a single page. Arctic Shores does not name Mizuho in its own client material, and the prep guides that cover Mizuho’s EMEA process name no vendor for it at all. That is not enough to tell you Mizuho uses Arctic Shores, so we do not.

Timing: the test comes straight after your CV

The official sequence puts online testing immediately after the application and before the video interview, with no intervening interview. Because the 2027 application window is short (September to early October) and listings may close early, expect the link soon after you apply rather than weeks later, and do your practice before you submit the CV rather than after.

Candidates report it is HireVue-hosted with two or three questions and roughly two minutes per answer; that platform name is unconfirmed. Reported question themes are consistent: why Mizuho and why this opportunity, and something you have recently read or learned in finance and markets. Some reports describe scenario prompts on motivational fit, working with others and delivering results, and one mentions a brainteaser.

A possible extra phone screen

Anecdotal

One candidate report mentions a phone call with a GRB recruiter between the video interview and the assessment center, and another mentions an HR interview at the same point. Neither appears in Mizuho’s published five stages, so treat it as something that may happen on some tracks rather than a guaranteed round. Do not plan your timeline around it, and do not be thrown if it happens.

What the assessment center contains

Anecdotal

Mizuho confirms the center is in person in London in late November to early December; GRB narrows it to the first week of December. The content comes from candidate accounts and a prep guide, not from Mizuho: a group exercise built around a case study, a 10-minute presentation prepared in advance followed by 15 to 20 minutes of questions on it, and a one-to-one or two-to-one interview that candidates describe as mostly behavioral. Several describe the day as running about six hours. Candidates also describe it as not very technical, but that is their impression of their own day, not a Mizuho statement, so prepare your division basics anyway.

What happens in the Mizuho hiring process?

UK internship and graduate process (London, via GRB)

Mizuho publishes five stages; GRB’s listings compress them to three but describe the same sequence.

US campus process (Mizuho Americas) — different pipeline, no games reported

If you are applying in the United States, the UK stages above do not apply and Mizuho publishes no process at all.

1Apply through your university career office or Workday. Mizuho Americas’ campus page lists programs, tracks and locations but no selection stages and no dates.
2Prep guides describe a resume screen, then a first round that is either a recorded video interview or a phone screen with an associate or VP covering behavioral questions and basic technicals.
3They then describe a Superday in New York with four to six back-to-back interviews with VPs and MDs.
4Treat all of that as unverified prep-site description. No game-based assessment is reported anywhere in the US process, and no US dates are published by Mizuho, so we do not print any.

When is the Mizuho assessment?

The UK internship calendar is the one Mizuho actually publishes, and it is tight: a one-month application window in the autumn, testing and the video interview immediately after, and everything decided before Christmas for an internship that starts the following June. Everything below was checked on 11 September 2026.

How to prepare for the Mizuho assessment process

Because the platform is unconfirmed, split your preparation by stage rather than by vendor. The online test is the part nobody can prepare you for precisely, so spend a short session getting comfortable with unfamiliar formats and a longer one on the two stages that are fully documented: the recorded video interview and the London assessment center. That is where the evidence is, and where preparation demonstrably changes outcomes.

Our practice metrics track your improvement on the generic exercises. Mizuho publishes no scoring model, no cutoff and no vendor, and nobody outside the process knows which test you will sit until your invitation arrives.

1. Read your invitation email before anything else

It is the only document that names the platform, the time limit and the device rules. If it names a vendor we cover, switch to that hub and practice the real format. If it names one we do not, work from that publisher’s own practice material rather than guessing.

2. Do one session on unfamiliar formats

Rather than drilling a battery nobody has confirmed, play a spread of task types once each so no format is new on the day. If your invitation does turn out to name Arctic Shores, come back and do a fuller session on that hub; the subset varies by employer, so breadth beats depth here.

3. Prepare a markets story you can actually explain

The question candidates name most often is something you have recently read or learned in finance and markets. Pick one story you genuinely followed, know why it matters to Mizuho’s business, and be able to give it in ninety seconds. A story you half-remember from a headline falls apart in a recorded answer with no interviewer to rescue you.

4. Rehearse the recorded answers against a timer

Two or three questions, around two minutes each. Prepare why Mizuho, why this track and this opportunity, and what you want out of the internship, then record yourself and watch it back once. Reported prompts also cover working with others and delivering results, so have one competency example ready for each.

5. Build the assessment-center presentation early

The 10-minute presentation is prepared before the day, and candidates report 15 to 20 minutes of follow-up questions on it, which is where a thin deck shows. Build it so you can defend every claim, and rehearse the questions you would ask yourself.

6. Practice the group case exercise

The group task is assessed on how you work, not on winning the discussion: structure the problem, bring quieter people in, keep the group to time. Do not treat it as a competition with the other candidates in the room.

7. Check eligibility before you apply

Penultimate-year students graduating in 2028, on track for a 2:1, with permanent right to work in the UK. Mizuho does not sponsor on this route. GRB asks that your graduation year matches on your CV and your profile, and listings may close before October 5, so apply early.
