What to expect in the L.E.K. Consulting assessment

The following formats come from the older Fishbowl account. Use them only as optional familiarization if your invitation indicates a comparable games assessment.

Visual memory and pipe puzzle

Category practice

Anecdotal

The same account describes comparing highlighted patterns with earlier patterns and connecting pipe pieces. It gives no official game names. The examples are historical and should not determine your entire preparation plan.

Good to know: An assessment platform can host several formats. A HireVue reference does not by itself tell you whether you must record video, play games or do both.

The L.E.K. Consulting video interview: researched questions

Our L.E.K. Consulting question set supports preparation for the video interview stages described in this guide. Each question is labeled by its evidence: officially published, candidate-reported, or a practice question written for this company or role. Use the timed mock to practice answering aloud.

Which L.E.K. Consulting roles and programs does this guide cover?

Preparation for L.E.K. should leave substantial time for explaining business decisions. A digital screen and a case conversation measure different things in different settings: familiarity with short online tasks cannot replace a clear, testable approach to a client problem.

Start with the office and entry level on your application. Keep notes about the source and date of any candidate account so that an older process does not become an assumed requirement for your own application.

Consulting entry routes

L.E.K. accepts applications from university and business-school candidates as well as people moving from other careers. Its application page describes multiple interview rounds and both quantitative and strategic cases, with the mix varying by region and level.

Certain London vacancies

The recruitment privacy notice dated January 2020 names Applied as an online assessment provider for certain London vacancies. This is a limited provider disclosure; it neither identifies a universal London test nor establishes a games requirement. Treat that older disclosure as historical context and follow the platform named in your current invitation.

Lateral Associate and Life Sciences Specialist reports

A 2026 discussion describes a digital invitation after a Lateral Associate application, with another contributor reporting a similar Life Sciences Specialist invitation. Neither supplies enough verified detail to establish the test’s vendor or content.

How does the L.E.K. Consulting assessment work?

What case interviewers can observe

Official source

L.E.K. explains that case interviews reveal how candidates organize information and experience to reach and defend a business conclusion. The result and the reasoning both matter to preparation.

Application restriction

Official source

The official application page says candidates may apply to only one of L.E.K.’s global offices per year. Choose carefully rather than submitting parallel applications based on different process rumors.

HireVue evidence has limits

Anecdotal

An older Fishbowl discussion, shown as six years old when reviewed, describes a friend’s HireVue invitation followed by three games. The office is not identified, and the account is secondhand. It supports a historical report, not a current firm-wide requirement.

No global pass mark or retake policy established

No evidence found

The reviewed official recruiting pages do not publish a shared score threshold, game count, invitation window or retake interval. Ask the recruiting contact about an unclear instruction before beginning.

What happens in the L.E.K. Consulting hiring process?

The published consulting interview process

L.E.K.’s global guidance establishes the core structure while leaving office-specific details open.

  1. 1Submit an application for the chosen office.
  2. 2If selected, prepare for several interview rounds combining professional experience and cases.
  3. 3Use the conversations to explain your interest in consulting and L.E.K., and to understand the role.

A practical approach to the case conversation

L.E.K.’s preparation page recommends a structured but adaptable discussion.

  1. 1Clarify the problem and make assumptions explicit.
  2. 2Organize an approach, then work through the issues while explaining your reasoning.
  3. 3Request information when it changes the decision; adjust your hypotheses as facts emerge.
  4. 4Finish with a recommendation and remain open to evidence that would change it.

When is the L.E.K. Consulting assessment?

Recruiting seasons vary by region. A case-interview schedule, digital-test expiry and office application deadline are separate dates.

L.E.K.’s application page directs candidates to regional opportunities rather than a single global calendar. The reviewed guidance does not establish a firm-wide decision turnaround.

How to prepare for the L.E.K. Consulting assessment process

The exercises below are original practice suggestions. Use them to build habits you can apply to an unfamiliar case rather than memorizing a supposedly guaranteed question.

1. Build a market estimate with visible units

Estimate annual demand for a product in a city. Define the population, eligible customers, purchase frequency and average spend. Explain why each assumption is reasonable, then test which assumption drives the result most strongly.

2. Turn a calculation into a recommendation

Practice a short profitability problem with revenue, price, volume and costs. After calculating, give a decision in one sentence and identify the biggest uncertainty. A number is useful only when its implication for the business is clear.

3. Practice changing your mind cleanly

Ask a practice partner to introduce a contradictory fact halfway through a case. State which part of your earlier argument it weakens, update the analysis and preserve conclusions that still hold. Avoid defending an initial answer simply because it was yours.

4. Prepare evidence for working with others

Choose examples involving a disagreement, a difficult deadline and learning an unfamiliar subject. Explain your personal contribution, the tradeoff you faced and a measurable outcome. Add a reflection on what you would repeat or change.

5. Make your motivation specific

Read a published L.E.K. case or insight related to the office’s work. Identify the business decision that interests you and connect it to skills you have practiced. Use this as a starting point for an informed conversation, not a memorized compliment.

L.E.K. Consulting assessment FAQ

Does L.E.K. always use HireVue games?

The evidence does not establish that. There is an older games account, a January 2020 London-specific Applied disclosure and more recent unspecified digital-assessment reports. Your invitation identifies the relevant route.

Is the digital assessment a recorded interview?

Not necessarily. Read the task description and equipment requirements. The term digital assessment alone does not specify a recorded-video format.

Do I need advanced finance knowledge for every case?

Prepare around the advertised role and the case guidance supplied to you. A useful general foundation is careful arithmetic, explicit assumptions and a clear explanation of what the result means.

What should I prioritize if my interview is soon?

Practice live cases with spoken reasoning, concise recommendations and follow-up questions. Reserve separate preparation time for any digital format explicitly named in your invitation.
