The DWS hiring process at a glance

  1. 1Online application — Choose the appropriate program and demonstrate its eligibility, language and role requirements.
  2. 2Online tests — Confirmed in 2027 role postings; the public descriptions do not identify the test modules. What is confirmed
  3. 3Video interview — Language varies by role: current Frankfurt examples specify either English or likely German.
  4. 4Final interview or assessment center — The final format depends on the program and invitation.Final-stage details
  5. 5Decision — Follow the recruiter’s communication and any next-step instructions.

What to expect in the DWS assessment

Online tests are confirmed, but their content is not specified in the reviewed role descriptions. Check the invitation for the actual format before choosing numerical, verbal, situational or game practice.

Good to know: No site simulator is presented as the DWS test. Likewise, the confirmed video interview should not be assumed to be a recorded HireVue interview without invitation-level evidence.

Which DWS roles and programs does this guide cover?

This guide concerns DWS, the asset manager. Its corporate careers page distinguishes early careers from professional hires. The detailed sequence here comes from the graduate and internship route; experienced candidates should follow their own vacancy and invitation.

Compare the specific program, team and intake before deciding what to practice. Current German graduate and seasonal-internship postings provide clear examples of role-specific requirements.

Germany graduate eligibility

The current Germany page accepts bachelor’s or master’s graduates from 2026 or 2027 for the September 6, 2027 start. It specifies less than 12 months of relevant full-time experience, excluding internships, and directs applicants to each role’s language requirements.

Frankfurt Human Resources P.A.C.E.

The 2027 HR posting describes four six-month rotations, requires advanced German and English, and anticipates German interviews. It also limits applicants to one 2027 DWS early-careers opportunity.

Frankfurt Product Alternatives internship

This spring internship specifies English video and final interviews, with German beneficial rather than required. Its work includes product development, product oversight, market research and collaboration across investment and support functions.

Professional hires

DWS presents professional hiring separately on its corporate careers page. That distinction supports checking experienced-role instructions individually; the page does not establish that professionals take the graduate assessment center.

How does the DWS assessment work?

Published order in a current role

Official source

The HR posting orders the stages as application, online tests, video interview and final interview day. Test scoring, question counts and duration are unspecified.

Intern final interview

The general early-career guidance describes a final internship interview with two DWS assessors. The invitation and specific role determine the language and arrangements.

DWS names Microsoft Teams for virtual final assessments and provides a briefing beforehand. This does not identify the supplier of its online tests.

What happens in the DWS hiring process?

Preparing for the final stage

The general early-career page gives useful distinctions between graduate and internship assessment.

  1. 1Graduates: be ready for collaborative problem-solving and an interview covering reasoning, communication and relevant technical knowledge.
  2. 2Interns: prepare for discussion with two assessors.
  3. 3Use the advance briefing to confirm the format and practical arrangements. Virtual final assessments use Teams.
  4. 4Expect feedback approximately two weeks after the final interview or assessment; this is guidance, not a guaranteed date.

Select the right Germany opportunity first

The Germany inventory includes both graduate roles and seasonal internships across different functions.

  1. 1Compare the team’s actual responsibilities, then assess your evidence against its eligibility requirements.
  2. 2Check graduation year, relevant experience and availability before investing time in the application.
  3. 3Use the individual posting for language requirements and closing dates; a country-wide assumption can be wrong.

How to prepare for the DWS assessment process

The following exercises build relevant skills without claiming to reproduce DWS questions. Prioritize your intended business function and the details in your assessment invitation.

1. Build an evidence-based motivation

Explain why asset management interests you, why this team suits your strengths and what you hope to contribute. Use one concrete project or experience to make each point credible; avoid an answer that could name any financial employer.

2. Practice for the function

For Product Alternatives, practice turning a small set of market and product data into a concise recommendation, with assumptions and risks. For HR, practice explaining a people-process improvement and how you would check that it worked. These are suggested exercises.

3. Explain reasoning in the right language

Rehearse a short account of a difficult decision, your own contribution and what changed afterward. Practice explaining specialist terms simply in the language the role specifies. Leave room for follow-up questions instead of memorizing a script.

4. Practice collaborative decisions

Work through a sample business problem with a partner: agree the objective, compare options, make trade-offs explicit and summarize a recommendation. Ask for feedback on whether you listened, built on other ideas and helped the discussion reach a conclusion.

5. Use the invitation to finish preparation

Once the test instructions arrive, check timing, tools, example questions and technical requirements. For interviews, prepare questions about the team’s priorities and how success is assessed. Request any necessary adjustments through the stated recruitment channel.

DWS assessment FAQ

Which assessment provider does DWS use?

The reviewed official sources do not identify its online-test provider. A recruitment portal or final-interview platform is not sufficient evidence of the psychometric supplier.

Are DWS interviews always in German?

No. The current Frankfurt HR graduate posting says likely German, while the Product Alternatives spring internship specifies English. Follow the individual role.

Does every DWS applicant attend a graduate assessment center?

No universal requirement is established. Early-career guidance distinguishes graduate assessment centers from internship final interviews, and professional hiring is a separate route.

Can I apply for several 2027 programs?

The reviewed HR posting limits applicants to one 2027 early-careers opportunity. Compare eligible roles before applying.

How should I prepare without a named online test?

Use the vacancy to prepare motivation and relevant work examples first. Choose test-specific practice after the invitation confirms the format; do not assume a numerical test or game lineup.
