What to expect in the WSP assessment

Arctic Shores is confirmed for the UK routes above, but the sources do not establish an exact current WSP game lineup. Prepare for the task-based category and read the instructions supplied with your own assessment.

Arctic Shores task-based assessment

Category practice

Official source

The vendor's WSP case study verifies the assessment category. Independent Arctic Shores practice can help you become comfortable with unfamiliar interactive tasks; it does not reproduce WSP's configuration or predict the scoring profile.

Good to know: Arctic Shores' general candidate guidance describes its own introductory practice task and recommends natural responses. Use the official instructions first. A practice score is not a WSP cutoff, and trying to imitate an imagined ideal personality is not a reliable preparation method.

Which WSP roles and programs does this guide cover?

Start with the country and programme in your application. A consulting case, technical activity and software competency check demonstrate different skills.

Prepare for both the online task format and a discussion of your discipline. Keep project examples, technical fundamentals and your reasons for joining a particular team in focus.

UK graduate recruitment

WSP's graduate FAQ, dated October 2024, describes an application form, behavioral assessment and interview day or interview. It distinguishes a technical activity for technical roles from a consulting case study. Use the current invitation to confirm whether that format applies.

UK undergraduate placements

The placement page names Arctic Shores and describes assessment followed by possible interview shortlisting. Passing the assessment does not guarantee an interview: WSP must also have a suitable placement.

UK apprenticeships

The apprenticeship page describes an online form without a CV, a skills enablers assessment from Arctic Shores, an interview or interview day, and a conditional offer. Entry qualifications differ by apprenticeship.

US professional opportunities

The US hiring guide includes application review, telephone and in-person interviews, plus a technical assessment when relevant. It recommends supporting materials such as project examples or drawings.

How does the WSP assessment work?

The provider relationship has direct evidence

Official source

Arctic Shores' WSP case study describes a UK early-career partnership beginning in 2018 and places its task-based assessment between application and interviews. This supports the provider identification without relying on the application portal's software.

Behavior is assessed through tasks

Official source

The 2024 graduate FAQ describes interactive tasks designed to observe responses to changing requirements, uncertainty and problems, with measures tailored to WSP. It is not a published bank of engineering examination questions.

Do not assume a task count or cutoff

No evidence found

The reviewed sources do not provide a current WSP-specific list of named tasks, a public pass mark or a universal completion time. Use the invitation for the task package and any deadline.

Technical preparation remains relevant

Official source

WSP's interview advice recommends revisiting subject fundamentals, discussing projects and explaining how you would investigate a problem when you do not already know the answer. The article dates from 2022; its old event calendar is not a current schedule.

What happens in the WSP hiring process?

UK placement applications

The current placement page sets out a matching process as well as an assessment.

  1. 1Complete the form with your studies, experiences and preferences; a CV is not required for this route.
  2. 2Eligible candidates are invited to the assessment when there is a placement matching their preferences.
  3. 3Successful assessment results can lead to an interview or interview day, subject to further shortlisting.
  4. 4A successful interview can lead to a conditional employment offer.

US interviews and technical checks

The US process gives a different preparation emphasis.

  1. 1Prepare to discuss relevant projects, motivation and technical experience in the initial telephone conversation.
  2. 2Later interviews can include technical, scenario-based or competency questions.
  3. 3A role-specific check may examine the software or tools the job requires, either alongside the interview or separately.
  4. 4Offer-stage arrangements can include background checks, references and any applicable security clearance.

When is the WSP assessment?

Published pages contain material from different recruitment cycles. Check the vacancy and invitation instead of assuming that an old assessment-centre calendar repeats.

How to prepare for the WSP assessment process

A strong preparation session should leave you with clearer evidence, not a script. Practice explaining what you noticed, how you tested it and what changed as a result.

1. Use the provider's familiarization

Arctic Shores recommends completing its practice task, reading instructions carefully and using a quiet setting with stable connectivity. Treat each new task as a fresh rule set. Do not carry a strategy from one exercise into the next without checking that the objective is the same.

2. Make your discipline choice concrete

Choose one project relevant to the team, such as a building, transport system or environmental intervention. Identify the client need and a tradeoff you find interesting. Explain the contribution your experience could support and one area where you still need development.

3. Revisit the reasoning behind a technical result

Take a calculation, model, design or field study from your work. Practice explaining assumptions, units, input quality and a reasonableness check. If challenged, show how you would verify an answer. This is preparation advice, not a claimed WSP test problem.

4. Prepare an evidence-led interview example

Use a teamwork or problem-solving situation with a clear individual contribution. Briefly set the context, spend most of the answer on your decisions, and finish with the result and lesson. WSP's interview article recommends this emphasis when structuring competency examples.

5. Practice communicating a tradeoff

For a case or technical discussion, compare two options against the same criteria. Explain what information would change your recommendation and how you would describe uncertainty to a client. Make your reasoning easy to follow.

WSP assessment FAQ

Does WSP use Arctic Shores?

Yes, it is directly documented for UK early-career recruitment. That confirmation should not be generalized to every country or experienced role.

Does passing the online assessment guarantee an interview?

No. The UK placement page says that role availability and further shortlisting still matter.

Are all WSP assessment centres the same?

No universal event format is established. Graduate guidance describes different technical and consulting activities, and the invitation should explain the event you will attend.

Should I learn a list of game names?

The reviewed evidence does not support an exact current lineup. Focus on understanding instructions and use the familiarization included with your invitation.

How should I prepare if I cannot answer a technical question?

Explain what you know, identify the missing information and describe a sensible way to investigate. Avoid guessing with unjustified certainty.
