What to expect in the RWE assessment

For applicants whose invitation names Arctic Shores, task familiarization can help with controls and instructions. The evidence below is scoped to candidate reports for the 2026 Commercial intake.

Good to know: Arctic Shores’ candidate guidance recommends its sample task, careful reading and a distraction-free setting. Use the provider’s actual instructions once invited. Neither this page nor another applicant’s task count establishes your current assessment.

Which RWE roles and programs does this guide cover?

RWE recruits into different parts of the energy business. Pick the program first, then use its location-specific details: commercial energy trading, finance and direct-entry jobs are not interchangeable assessment routes.

A report from an earlier Chicago intake cannot establish the next Essen task set. Keep provider evidence, cohort dates and personal feedback separate.

Commercial Graduate Programme

RWE Supply & Trading’s Commercial program develops knowledge of financial and physical energy trading. The published 2027 intake covers Essen, Swindon, Singapore and Chicago, each with a separate calendar.

Finance Graduate Programme

Finance offers four six-month rotations across areas including accounting, controlling, risk, planning and investment evaluation. Prepare to explain why financial analysis in an energy business interests you.

Direct entry and other graduate programs

RWE distinguishes direct-entry junior positions from graduate programs. Its general guidance says selection modules can change order, so use the specific vacancy and invitation to establish your sequence.

How does the RWE assessment work?

Assessment-center exercises vary

Official source

RWE’s FAQ lists possible interviews, case studies, role play, group work and tests. This is a menu of possible components, not a promise that every applicant completes all of them.

Only one graduate program progresses

Official source

The FAQ allows one graduate program per recruiting cycle. Candidates who submit more than one are asked to choose the application to take forward.

Arctic Shores and HireVue are candidate-reported

Anecdotal

The 2026 Commercial intake discussion contains first-person accounts of Arctic Shores, including Chicago applicants, and subsequent HireVue interviews. The comments are useful historical evidence, not an official vendor statement for the 2027 cycle.

Read the Finance dates carefully

Official source

At review, the Finance page’s banner says September 2026 while its key-facts table says September 2027. The location application tables contain 2026–27 dates. Confirm the cohort in the actual vacancy before making plans.

No published universal task list or pass mark

No evidence found

The reviewed RWE pages do not disclose a common task lineup, scoring threshold or retake entitlement. Treat candidate feedback scores as personal reports rather than targets you must reproduce.

What happens in the RWE hiring process?

RWE’s published graduate selection framework

RWE gives a general framework while explicitly allowing the selection modules to vary.

  1. 1Submit the application through the vacancy. The graduate overview describes an initial response generally within two weeks.
  2. 2Progress through the tests and interviews specified for your program, followed by the relevant assessment event.
  3. 3Complete any program-specific medical requirement and contract steps if selected. The overall estimate is typically up to 12 weeks, not a guaranteed turnaround.

If your invitation names Arctic Shores

The vendor’s general candidate guidance helps with preparation, but does not verify RWE’s choice of tasks.

  1. 1Use the provided practice task to learn the interaction and read the real instructions fully.
  2. 2Choose a stable, quiet setup and allow enough uninterrupted time for the invitation’s requirements.
  3. 3Read any feedback as a description of assessed behavior; the employer determines how results fit its hiring decision.

How to prepare for the RWE assessment process

Prepare one energy-business example in enough depth to explain an opportunity and its uncertainty. Keep interface familiarity, interview examples and subject knowledge as separate preparation tasks.

1. Make the program choice deliberate

Compare the advertised responsibilities with two past projects or modules. Identify what attracts you to those tasks, what you already do well and what you would need to learn. Be ready to explain why the chosen route is a better fit for your interests than adjacent work.

2. Build an energy-market explanation

As a practice exercise, choose a change such as unexpectedly low wind output or higher gas prices. Explain possible effects on supply, demand, costs and risk. Separate facts from assumptions and avoid pretending that one variable determines the whole market.

3. Rehearse analysis for your function

Commercial candidates can compare a simple trading or asset decision under two scenarios. Finance candidates can explain how a forecast change affects profit, cash and risk. Write down the missing data before making a recommendation; this makes your reasoning easier to assess.

4. Practice constructive group participation

Use a short group case with friends: propose a structure, invite competing ideas, check the arithmetic and summarize the decision. Do not aim to speak most. Aim to make the group’s conclusion clearer and supportable.

5. Review behavior without chasing a profile

When practicing interactive tasks, focus on understanding instructions and staying consistent after mistakes. For interview examples, show how you made decisions, coordinated with others and responded when your first approach failed.

RWE assessment FAQ

Does every RWE candidate take Arctic Shores?

That is not established. Applicants for the 2026 Commercial intake reported it, while RWE says tests can differ. Check the named provider in your current invitation.

Will I have a HireVue interview?

HireVue appears in candidate reports. RWE officially describes recorded or live interview stages without confirming one video vendor for every graduate program.

What should I practice for the assessment center?

Use the invitation to identify the actual exercises. A useful starting point is explaining a business decision, interpreting a small data set and working collaboratively toward a recommendation.

Can I rely on the Finance page’s start-date banner?

The reviewed page contains a 2026/2027 inconsistency. Use the live vacancy’s cohort and obtain clarification from the listed recruitment contact before relying on a start date.

Does a strong assessment feedback score guarantee progression?

No guarantee is published. Other applicants’ feedback and outcomes do not reveal the employer’s complete selection decision or a universal passing threshold.
