The PNC Bank hiring process at a glance

  1. 1Application — Choose a vacancy and tailor your experience to its requirements.
  2. 2Screening — A recruiter conversation, assessment or recorded interview may apply.
  3. 3Live interviews — Discuss your experience with the recruiting or hiring team.
  4. 4Decision and onboarding — Successful candidates receive offer and screening instructions.

What to expect in the PNC Bank assessment

No sufficiently documented current PNC game lineup is established here. Behavioral interview practice is relevant to the published development-program process, but it should not be presented as a numerical, cognitive or personality test specification.

Good to know: Select test practice after reading the assessment name and instructions in your invitation. Historical HireVue reports support preparing for recorded answers, not assuming a particular set of games.

Which PNC Bank roles and programs does this guide cover?

A branch position, a technology internship and a development-program role call for different preparation. Begin with the responsibilities and eligibility in your vacancy, then use the invitation to identify the actual assessment. A generic bank-test package can send you toward formats that have not been established for your application.

For interview practice, connect your example to a banking outcome: a customer understood an option, an error was caught, a process became more reliable, or a team delivered work on time. Explain your contribution and the tradeoff you considered. These are preparation suggestions, not a leaked question list.

Summer internships

PNC describes a ten-week summer placement involving practical work affecting customers and other stakeholders. The internship is distinct from a permanent development-program appointment.

Development programs

Programs span business areas and typically last 12–36 months. The published recruiting guidance emphasizes conversations and behavioral interviews about experience, interests and career direction.

A route from internship to graduate employment

PNC says internship participants can receive development-program offers. That is an opportunity for progression, rather than a promise of conversion or an exemption from all subsequent selection.

How does the PNC Bank assessment work?

Assessments are conditional

Official source

The general hiring guide says some roles use a pre-employment assessment or prerecorded interview, usually ahead of a live interview.

HireVue has been reported for technology internships

Anecdotal

In a December 2023 discussion, a technology-internship applicant described completing HireVue; a later reply characterized their questions as behavioral. This is historical candidate evidence, not current policy for every PNC role.

Current test specification remains vacancy-specific

No evidence found

The public process guide does not identify one universal provider, question count, pass mark or game set. A recorded interview alone does not establish a game-based assessment.

Application accommodations

Official source

PNC provides an accommodation route for applicants. Its instructions ask candidates to identify the job ID and preferred contact method, making the specific vacancy useful when arranging support before an assessment.

What happens in the PNC Bank hiring process?

PNC’s published screening and interview process

The general guide allows different screening steps by vacancy.

  1. 1Talent Acquisition reviews the application and may arrange an introductory phone call.
  2. 2If invited, complete the specified assessment or recorded interview.
  3. 3Live interviews can be in person or by video with recruiting staff, a manager or a panel.
  4. 4For a successful application, the recruiter explains the offer and subsequent background-screening and onboarding steps.

Preparing for a development-program conversation

PNC’s program page puts the interview emphasis on your story and reasons for choosing the opportunity.

  1. 1Choose the actual business area before building your examples.
  2. 2Explain how academic, employment or extracurricular experience supports your interest.
  3. 3Use the conversation to assess the program’s learning opportunities and fit with your direction.

The program page describes applications opening each August and possible winter reposting. Its September 16 guidance is a recommended application point, not a guaranteed cutoff or a promise that every stream remains open.

How to prepare for the PNC Bank assessment process

Build a small evidence bank that you can adapt across screening and live interviews. Keep each account grounded in something you actually did.

1. Choose a banking context

For a customer-facing application, practice explaining a difficult service interaction clearly. For a technology role, describe how you tested or improved a system. For risk or finance, explain the assumptions behind an analysis and the checks you performed.

2. Make your development goal specific

Name the capability you want to build and why the chosen program is an appropriate setting. Compare the advertised rotations or responsibilities with your past projects so your motivation has evidence behind it.

3. Rehearse a concise recorded answer

If a recording is requested, practice with your own camera and a timer. State the situation briefly, explain your action, and finish with the result. Review clarity and pace before opening the live invitation.

4. Practice explaining an error and its correction

Choose a real example of noticing a mistake, communicating it and preventing recurrence. Make the improvement concrete; a credible account of judgment is more useful than claiming you never make errors.

PNC Bank assessment FAQ

Are internship and development programs the same?

No. PNC describes a ten-week summer internship and separate development programs for graduates, with potential progression between them.

How should I prepare for a development-program interview?

Prepare evidence of your actions, learning and motivation for the selected business area. PNC expressly emphasizes behavioral conversations on its program page.
