What to expect in the PEAK6 assessment

The evidence points to analytical exercises for trading. No named commercial game battery is verified. Use the following as skill categories; the reports do not establish a fixed question count or a current timer.

Probability and reasoning exercises

Category practice

Anecdotal

Trading candidates describe probability, expected-value problems, and reasoning puzzles. Practice constructing outcomes and checking assumptions before calculating; these categories are broader than any one assessment product.

Mental arithmetic and estimation

Category practice

Anecdotal

The 2025 Chicago report describes mental arithmetic, bet sizing, and estimation during a technical conversation. Practice explaining a rough estimate and how uncertainty would affect a decision. No exact simulator match is established.

Good to know: Poker sessions and risk-taking games in the internship description are learning activities. They do not establish that the hiring assessment contains poker, HireVue games, or another named battery.

Which PEAK6 roles and programs does this guide cover?

Begin with the business named in your vacancy. PEAK6’s careers page covers a portfolio of companies, while the trading evidence here relates chiefly to Capital Management. A support, engineering, or portfolio-company application should not inherit a trading-intern test lineup.

For trading, connect mathematical accuracy with a clear explanation of decisions. Practice stating assumptions, revising estimates, and explaining risk. These are preparation recommendations, not a disclosed scoring formula.

Trading Internship for Women+

The Summer 2027 posting describes a Chicago trading experience with project ownership, options education, and mentoring. It specifies junior standing with graduation from December 2027 through June 2028. Review the posting’s eligibility instead of assuming every PEAK6 internship has the same criteria.

Trading Bootcamp micro-internship

The Summer 2027 bootcamp posting describes a week of learning and project work, with consideration for future employment. It is a distinct program rather than a shortened guarantee of a full-time offer.

Experienced trading roles

The convertible-bonds trader posting emphasizes volatility exposure, hedging, valuation, credit analysis, and risk limits. Those responsibilities call for preparation around your own trading judgment and relevant market knowledge; an entry-level probability exercise alone would be too narrow.

How does the PEAK6 assessment work?

A published campus assessment stage

Official source

The campus page confirms an assessment but does not name its supplier or publish the question bank.

Trading candidate evidence

Anecdotal

January and February 2025 Capital Management intern reports describe probability, expected value, estimation, and behavioral discussion. One also describes a short mental-math component. These are individual accounts, not the published specification for 2027.

Why interview logistics can differ

Anecdotal

An August 2025 Chicago trading-intern account describes a recruiter call and an in-person final day. That differs from the Zoom format on the campus page; use your own invitation for location and schedule.

Bootcamp and full-length hiring are distinct

Official source

A PEAK6 campus manager’s presentation hosted by RippleMatch distinguishes a shorter bootcamp final interview from longer full-time and internship finals. It is useful historical context, but the undated deck should not replace current instructions.

Technology interviews have separate evidence

Anecdotal

A September 2026 Austin AI-engineer report describes live coding and team interviews. It supports role-specific technical preparation, not a universal coding stage for all PEAK6 applicants.

Vendor, threshold, and retakes remain unconfirmed

No evidence found

The reviewed public sources do not establish a current common assessment vendor, pass mark, or retake policy. The application system and Zoom interviews do not identify the assessment supplier.

What happens in the PEAK6 hiring process?

Published campus outline

This is the campus page’s outline, not a promise for every PEAK6 business.

  1. 1Apply and complete the assessment when invited.
  2. 2Discuss technical and behavioral topics.
  3. 3Meet leadership and potential teammates in the final interview.
  4. 4Await the decision and follow the recruiter’s instructions.

Preparing for experienced trading discussions

Use the actual desk’s responsibilities to decide the depth of technical preparation.

  1. 1For the cited convertible-bonds role, prepare a clear explanation of an optionality or relative-value decision you have made.
  2. 2Connect your analysis to hedges, position sizing, and model limitations.
  3. 3Discuss how your view changed when market inputs moved; this is suggested preparation, not a reported interview question.

How to prepare for the PEAK6 assessment process

Build a preparation plan around the job family and the instructions you actually received. The exercises below are independent practice suggestions.

1. Practice expected value with explicit outcomes

Create small dice, card, or weighted-outcome examples. List outcomes, assign probabilities, and calculate expected value. Then change an assumption and explain the result. Include variance and downside exposure so a favorable average is not your only decision rule.

2. Make arithmetic reliable before making it fast

Refresh fractions, percentages, multiplication, and approximation. Work in short timed blocks and distinguish arithmetic slips from misunderstood conditions. Do not impose an online report’s timer on the real assessment.

3. Explain estimates as ranges

Estimate an everyday quantity from a few observable components. State units, identify the most sensitive assumption, and check the order of magnitude. Revise the estimate when someone challenges an input.

4. Prepare collaboration and learning examples

Prepare accounts of a mistaken assumption, constructive disagreement, and a skill learned quickly. Explain your contribution and how the team benefited. The internship’s collaborative setting makes these useful alongside technical preparation.

5. Connect technical depth to the role

For trading, review relevant market mechanics. For engineering, rehearse implementation choices, tests, and failure handling. For an exploratory bootcamp, explain what you want to learn without pretending to have professional trading experience.

PEAK6 assessment FAQ

Does PEAK6 use HireVue, SHL, or another named test?

A current common provider is not established by the reviewed sources. PEAK6 confirms a campus assessment; use the invitation to identify the platform and instructions.

Is the assessment only mental math?

No such official specification is published. Trading candidates also report probability and reasoning, with technical and behavioral discussion later in their process.

Are the internship’s poker games part of recruitment?

The current internship advert presents them as program activities. That is not evidence of a poker hiring test.

Will a bootcamp use the same final day as a trading internship?

Do not assume so. PEAK6’s historical recruiting presentation distinguishes their finals, and the current invitation is the best guide to your program’s schedule.

Should I prepare advanced options theory for every PEAK6 role?

Match the depth to the vacancy. The internship includes options education, while the experienced convertible-bonds posting already expects relevant derivatives knowledge. Technology and other portfolio roles need their own preparation.
