The Leonardo UK assessment process, explained

Leonardo UK’s current early-careers brochure describes a recorded competency interview followed by a recruiting-team interview. It lists no game stage; apprentices have separately published guidance.

The Leonardo hiring process at a glance

  1. 1Application and eligibility — Match your qualifications and circumstances to the individual vacancy.
  2. 2Video screening — Selected early-career applicants record competency answers, with practice available.
  3. 3Interview — The recruiting team assesses suitability for the chosen role.
  4. 4Outcome and checks — An offer is followed by the applicable security and vetting process.

What to expect in the Leonardo assessment

Current UK early-career guidance lists no games and names no assessment supplier. A video interview alone does not identify a vendor or imply a game stage. Follow the format in your invitation.

Good to know: Older Leonardo material is not a reliable source for today’s game count. Independent cognitive practice is optional familiarization; it is not a confirmed match to a Leonardo test.

Which Leonardo roles and programs does this guide cover?

This guide covers Leonardo’s UK aerospace, defense and security business. An application in another country needs the local employer’s process; do not transfer the UK apprenticeship sequence automatically.

The most useful preparation combines a well-understood project with evidence of how you work. Explain the requirement, your decisions, the testing and the outcome. Choose examples you can discuss without revealing confidential information from a current or former employer.

UK graduate opportunities

The current graduate page lists a relevant 2:2 bachelor’s degree as its general minimum and requires eligibility for UK security clearance. The selected vacancy remains the source for specific entry criteria.

The apprenticeship FAQ explicitly identifies its recruitment stages.

  1. 1Submit the application and complete the screening questionnaire.
  2. 2If invited, record answers to four specified questions.
  3. 3Leonardo reviews the application against the vacancy before a virtual interview.
  4. 4Use the invitation for preparation time, answer limits and technical requirements; these are not established by the public summary.

Professional interview and outcome

Experienced hiring has separately published guidance.

  1. 1Agree the interview arrangements and check the confirmation email.
  2. 2Prepare examples relevant to the skills and experience in the vacancy.
  3. 3The recruitment team communicates the decision; use the stated timescale for your process.

How to prepare for the Leonardo assessment process

These are original practice exercises to help you explain technical work and teamwork. They are not Leonardo’s interview questions or presentation brief.

1. Explain an engineering project from requirement to test

Choose one design or software project and state the requirement before describing the solution. Explain a key tradeoff, how you tested the result and one limitation. If you worked in a team, identify the decision or component you owned. Prepare a plain-language version as well as a deeper technical discussion.

2. Show how you handle an unexpected result

Use an example where a measurement, test or implementation did not behave as expected. Describe how you checked assumptions, isolated a cause and recorded what changed. Avoid presenting trial and error as a perfect first attempt. A clear account of learning and verification is more persuasive than an unexplained claim of success.

3. Prepare a short project presentation

Build a simple narrative: problem, constraints, your approach, evidence and next step. Use only visuals that help explain the decision. Practice answering why you rejected an alternative and what further test you would run. Follow the actual invitation for any required topic, length and slide format.

4. Practice recorded answers naturally

Record a brief account of learning a new skill or resolving a disagreement. Keep the background short and describe concrete actions. Watch once for clarity and once for audio quality. A few keywords can support preparation, but a memorized speech often makes it harder to respond directly to a different question.

5. Check the role’s practical conditions

Review the stated location, qualifications and eligibility requirements before investing in preparation. Gather accurate dates and documents you may need later. If a requirement is unclear, seek clarification through the official candidate contact rather than assuming that a general careers page resolves your circumstances.

Leonardo assessment FAQ

Does Leonardo currently use HireVue games?

Current UK early-career guidance does not name HireVue or list a game stage. Confirm any additional assessment from your invitation.

How many recorded questions do apprentices answer?

The current UK apprenticeship FAQ specifies four. Check the invitation for the answer settings.

Is the graduate minimum a 2:1 or 2:2?

The current UK graduate overview says 2:2. Check the chosen vacancy for its exact discipline and qualification requirements.

Should I prepare a presentation?

Prepare one if your invitation requests it. Follow the supplied brief rather than assuming that every Leonardo role uses the same presentation stage.

Can I use this guide for Leonardo outside the UK?

Use local recruitment guidance first. Country-specific eligibility, stages and checks may differ.
