What to expect in the KLM assessment

The strongest preparation match is to the format named in your own invitation. Personality questionnaires, ability exercises and workplace judgment are distinct tasks; practicing one does not reproduce the others.

Good to know: No named simulator is established as an exact KLM assessment. In particular, the English Serious Game wording should not be converted into a claim that all cabin applicants receive online recruitment games.

Which KLM roles and programs does this guide cover?

Begin by identifying the employer and job family on your invitation. A preparation plan for Cityhopper cabin crew should not be treated as a description of every KLM assessment, and the management traineeship has its own published funnel.

There is a meaningful source conflict for mainline cabin recruitment. The Dutch page describes a different sequence from the English page, whose Serious Game reference still carries an RIVM-guidelines qualification. Neither page establishes the exact current exercises in an individual invitation.

KLM mainline cabin

The Dutch selection page lists a personality questionnaire, ability test and situational judgment assessment, followed by a group assignment that includes spoken English, a recruiter interview and final checks.

KLM Cityhopper cabin

Cityhopper explicitly names an Aon assessment with personality, ability and situational judgment components. Its separate route includes application review, motivation video and CV evaluation, an interview with two recruiters and subsequent checks.

Management traineeships

The published two-year program offers Business & Tech, Corporate, Engineering & Maintenance, and Finance tracks. Its selection begins with website registration, with KLM stating that it does not select on the CV at that entry stage.

How does the KLM assessment work?

The English cabin page is different

Official source

The English page instead describes basic-requirement screening, digital ability and competency tests with a video pitch, a Serious Game subject to RIVM guidance, and an interview. Treat this as a documented discrepancy, not a guaranteed extra game round.

English speaking in Cityhopper selection

Official source

The Cityhopper interview includes spoken-English assessment. Its page also allows a reference check; this does not establish a separate reference stage for every applicant.

Trainee video and assessment day

Official source

The trainee sequence contains a cognitive assessment, a second cognitive-and-personality stage, a personal video, a selection interview and an in-person assessment day before an offer. KLM does not describe the day's individual exercises on this page.

Test products and pass marks

No evidence found

The sources reviewed do not establish product names, time limits or passing scores for every route. An Aon relationship in Cityhopper is insufficient evidence for a particular KLM-wide game list.

What happens in the KLM hiring process?

Mainline cabin: the Dutch published sequence

Use this as a route summary, while checking the stages in your current invitation.

  1. 1Complete the digital assessments specified for your application.
  2. 2Attend the group assignment, including assessment of spoken English.
  3. 3Interview with two recruiters.
  4. 4Complete security and medical requirements. The page also allows personnel-file or reference checks, and training follows when a place is available.

Business & Tech trainee preparation

The track page repeats the trainee selection funnel and gives useful context for discussing the work.

  1. 1Prepare for the cognitive stages, personal video, selection interview and in-person assessment day.
  2. 2Review how technology decisions affect an airline's operational dependencies: KLM illustrates this through cloud-transition work.
  3. 3Use the self-check-in rollout example to think about coordination among Digital, Ground Operations and Security. These are published assignment examples, not promised assessment cases.

When is the KLM assessment?

Application closing dates, assessment invitation expiry and cabin training placement are different milestones. None should be inferred from another.

The cabin FAQ says openings are advertised on KLM Careers and unsolicited applications are not accepted. It describes a one-year validity period for cabin selection results, including rejection, and says successful selection does not guarantee immediate placement on a basic course.

How to prepare for the KLM assessment process

Make a short checklist from your vacancy and invitation before choosing practice. The recommendations below are preparation suggestions, not a prediction of questions.

1. Practice concise service decisions

For cabin applications, rehearse explaining how you would handle competing passenger needs, an unclear instruction or a disagreement with a colleague. State the concern, the information you need and the next sensible action.

2. Prepare evidence in spoken English

Tell a short story about adapting under pressure, then repeat it naturally in English. Make your own contribution and the outcome clear, and practice responding to a follow-up rather than memorizing a speech.

3. Connect trainee motivation to actual work

Choose a problem relevant to your track and explain its operational consequences. For Business & Tech, practice describing a rollout's stakeholders, dependencies and trade-offs in language a nontechnical colleague could understand.

4. Resolve practical eligibility early

Check diploma requirements and any accreditation steps against the cabin FAQ before the first selection stage. Separately record the invitation deadline and prepare the device or setting it requires.

KLM assessment FAQ

Does KLM use Aon?

KLM explicitly names Aon for Cityhopper cabin recruitment. That confirmation does not establish the provider for all other KLM roles.

Will I play a Serious Game?

The English mainline cabin page mentions one, but the Dutch counterpart describes a group assignment and different digital tests. Use your current invitation to resolve the mismatch.

Is the management trainee video the final stage?

No. The published trainee sequence continues with a selection interview and an in-person assessment day before an offer.

Can I start cabin training immediately after passing?

KLM's cabin FAQ says placement depends on course availability. Keep training availability separate from passing a selection round.
