Choose practice by the skill you want to improve. A numerical exercise can reveal rushed arithmetic; a short coding project can reveal weak validation. Those findings are useful without treating an independent exercise as an employer replica.

How to prepare for the Gunvor assessment process
The following are original practice suggestions, not disclosed questions. Make your working visible: identify assumptions, explain a decision and check whether the result makes sense before moving on.
1. Keep an arithmetic error log
Try short sets involving percentages, ratios, unit conversions and simple probabilities. Record whether mistakes came from calculation, interpretation or units. Estimate the answer before calculating precisely, then check the direction of the result. For example, explain whether a price increase should raise or lower a margin before computing it. Repeat comparable exercises until the same error stops recurring.
2. Follow one commodity through a commercial problem
Choose a commodity you can explain plainly. Sketch how it moves between supplier and customer, then introduce a hypothetical delay or price change. Explain who bears the cost, which information you would request and what would change your recommendation. Keep assumptions explicit. This is a practice case for commercial reasoning, not a prediction of Gunvor's simulation scenario.
3. For Quant, build something you can defend
Use a small public dataset for a personal coding exercise. Clean it, construct a simple baseline and test the result on observations you did not use to develop the model. Check missing values, accidental information leakage and sensitivity to assumptions. Practice explaining both the code and its limitations to someone who wants a business conclusion rather than a tour of every function.
4. Prepare motivation from evidence
Record a concise explanation of why this discipline interests you, using a project or experience that changed your understanding of it. Listen for unsupported adjectives and replace them with actions. Explain what you contributed, what was difficult and what you still want to learn. Keep a few bullet points rather than memorising a speech, so you can answer the actual prompt.
5. Discuss a decision that needed revision
Choose an example where new information changed your original plan. Explain the initial reasoning, the signal you noticed, the adjustment and the outcome. Include how you communicated with other people and what you would do differently now. Ask a practice partner to challenge one assumption; respond directly before adding context, and distinguish what you know from what you are estimating.

How much market knowledge should I rehearse?
