What to expect in the CVS Health assessment

The historical handout supports the categories below. These are familiarization options rather than a reconstruction of the current CVS assessment.

Good to know: An accuracy drill or mock interview cannot reproduce CVS scoring or establish a passing result. Answer work-style questions honestly and complete the real assessment independently.

The CVS Health video interview: researched questions

Our CVS Health question set supports preparation for the video interview stages described in this guide. Each question is labeled by its evidence: officially published, candidate-reported, or a practice question written for this company or role. Use the timed mock to practice answering aloud.

  1. 1Tell me about yourself.Reported by multiple candidates
  2. 2Why do you want to work at CVS?Reported by multiple candidates
  3. 3Tell me about a time when you changed the way something was being done — how did you challenge the status quo, gain support, and overcome obstacles?Reported by multiple candidates

Which CVS Health roles and programs does this guide cover?

Start by identifying the job you actually applied for. A store associate, pharmacy technician, pharmacist and corporate specialist should not prepare from an interchangeable answer sheet. Save the advert and make a short list of the responsibilities, qualifications and working conditions it describes.

The official in-store careers page separates customer-facing store work from leadership and technician training pathways. The pharmacy page also distinguishes community, specialty, long-term-care, mail and home-infusion environments. Use that context to choose the examples you discuss in an interview.

Store applicants

Retail associates support customers on the shop floor and at the register; operations and management roles add team oversight.

Pharmacy applicants

Technician roles span several settings. Retail technicians work with pharmacists on prescriptions and insurance issues, while other settings involve different workflows.

Experienced and specialist vacancies

Do not transfer a retail assessment description to a clinical, technical or corporate vacancy without matching instructions.

What happens in the CVS Health hiring process?

Keep the application organized

Use a simple personal checklist alongside the official process.

  1. 1Save the job title, location and requisition number so you can distinguish multiple applications.
  2. 2Check pending tasks before assuming the application is complete.
  3. 3Review offers in Candidate Home; CVS identifies this as its official offer channel.

Prepare for the right work environment

These are preparation suggestions drawn from the different pharmacy pathways, not additional hiring stages.

  1. 1Identify whether the vacancy serves patients face to face, supports a mail operation or works in another setting.
  2. 2Prepare a clear example of careful work and one of respectful communication.
  3. 3Explain how you would recognize a question outside your training and obtain appropriate help.

How to prepare for the CVS Health assessment process

The exercises below are original practice suggestions. They are designed to make your judgment, care and attention easier to demonstrate; they are not leaked CVS questions or an official scoring key.

1. Practice accurate checking with fictional records

Make a small table of invented item numbers, quantities and dates. Copy it into a second table, introduce a few transposed digits and missing fields, then compare one field at a time. Record both the errors you found and any correct fields you accidentally changed. Improve your checking method before increasing speed; never use real patient records for practice.

2. Explain a customer decision

Invent a situation with a waiting customer, an unfinished task and a colleague who needs help. State what information you need, what can safely wait and when you would involve a supervisor. Avoid promises you cannot control. Practice explaining your next step calmly in ordinary language. This is a reasoning exercise, not an answer to a CVS assessment item.

3. Build evidence from your own experience

Prepare three examples: catching an error, helping someone frustrated, and learning a procedure. Experience may come from work, school or volunteering. Describe the situation briefly, focus on your personal action, and finish with the result and what you learned. Avoid implying you hold a qualification or handled a responsibility you have not actually held.

4. Match interview preparation to the vacancy

For a store role, rehearse concise explanations of service and teamwork. For a leadership role, add an example of prioritizing work across a team. For a technical or clinical vacancy, use the listed competencies to choose a project or professional example. Keep confidential details anonymous and separate your individual contribution from the team’s achievement.

5. Use the preview to assess your own fit

When any job preview is provided, listen for the pace, interaction and day-to-day demands. Write down an honest question about something unclear rather than trying to select an imagined ideal personality. Before the live task, check your device, connection and permitted materials, and resolve any accessibility needs using the current hiring guidance.

CVS Health assessment FAQ

Does everyone take the CVS VJT?

No. Check whether your application assigns one.

Is Workday the test provider?

Workday is the application portal. Its name alone does not identify the assessment supplier or content.

Should I prepare for pharmacy knowledge questions?

Use your vacancy and invitation. A pharmacy career label alone does not establish an assessment syllabus or the same professional requirements for every role.

Can I rely on a six-month retake rule?

That appears in the historical handout; confirm the current policy for your assessment.

Does practice guarantee a pass?

No. Treat practice as a way to improve your process, not a prediction of the employer’s decision.

What if my assessment link fails?

Use the VJT help-ticket link on the official hiring page and keep a record of the error.
