The CBRE graduate process, explained

Every stage of CBRE’s UK graduate schemes, what the evidence does and does not say about the online testing stage, the 2027 dates, and where to practice while the vendor is unconfirmed.

The CBRE interview rounds at a glance

  1. 1Online application — Apply on CBRE’s careers portal to a specific scheme (Commercial Real Estate, Property Management, Planning, or the Dublin scheme). The 2027 Commercial Real Estate ad asks you to indicate a preference among Valuations, Capital Markets and Leasing at application. The ads also carry an AI-use disclosure asking candidates to declare any use of AI in the application and interview process.
  2. 2Online job-focused testing — CBRE’s own wording for stage one, with no vendor named. Candidates in one 2026-cycle thread report an Arctic Shores assessment arriving within days of applying; CBRE has not confirmed this and no candidate anywhere names the tasks. What the testing stage is, and isn’t
  3. 3Phone screening — A short call, reported at roughly 5 to 10 minutes with 2 to 5 questions: why CBRE, which other schemes you have applied to, which RISE core value you identify with, and a situational question.Reported questions
  4. 4Assessment center — Held in December or January for the UK schemes, October for Dublin, around February for the GWS division. Group exercise, individual presentation on a topic given on the day, and competency questions.Dates by scheme
  5. 5Interview — CBRE’s published final stage, listed after the assessment center. Format is thinly reported: one ESG candidate describes a 45-minute individual interview with technical and competency questions.Practice recorded and live answers

What games are in the CBRE assessment?

CBRE has no confirmed game lineup, and this page deliberately does not invent one. The official description of the stage is "online job-focused testing" and nothing more. Candidates in one 2026-cycle thread report it was an Arctic Shores task-based assessment, but not one of them names which tasks CBRE uses, and CBRE has never confirmed the vendor. Employers who use task-based assessments pick their own subsets, so a generic list here would mislead you into drilling exercises you may never see. What follows is honest category practice for the kinds of demands a task-based assessment makes, plus a pointer to the Arctic Shores hub if, and only if, your invitation names that vendor. None of these is a CBRE assessment.

Arctic Shores tasks: reported, but never itemized for CBRE

Category practice

Single source

If your invitation email names Arctic Shores, the hub explains the format candidates describe generally: short task-based exercises, each with practice before it starts, and a feedback report afterward. What this page will not do is tell you which tasks CBRE runs, because no source anywhere says. Do not spend your preparation drilling a task list nobody has confirmed; use the hub to get comfortable with the format, then follow the exercises your own invitation lists.

Working under time pressure without losing accuracy

Category practice

No evidence found

Whatever the platform turns out to be, a timed online assessment rewards the same habit: reading the instructions properly, then holding accuracy steady as the pace rises. These simulators train that on attention and rule-switching formats. They are other employers’ exercises used as generic practice, not CBRE’s battery.

Source: Category practice; CBRE names no test type beyond "job-focused testing"

Numerical confidence for a property-sector interview

Category practice

No evidence found

Nothing official says the CBRE testing stage is numerical. But the schemes lead to the RICS APC and to Valuations, Capital Markets and Leasing work, and the later stages include a business-flavored presentation and competency questions, so comfort with figures under time pressure is worth having regardless. Use these as general numerical practice, not as a model of CBRE’s test.

Source: Category practice; no CBRE source describes a numerical test

Good to know: Nothing on this page is a confirmed CBRE game. CBRE names no assessment vendor, the Arctic Shores report comes from a single forum thread, and no source names the tasks CBRE uses. Your invitation email is the only document that names the platform, its exercises, its time limits and its device requirements. Follow it over anything here, and if it names a vendor or lists the exercises, tell us so this page can be corrected.

Who gets the CBRE assessment?

CBRE is a commercial real estate services firm, and its UK "Next Generation" graduate schemes (Commercial Real Estate, Property Management, Planning) all publish the same four stages: online job-focused testing, phone screening, an assessment center held in December or January, then an interview. That sequence is CBRE’s own, and it appears identically on CBRE’s careers portal and on its verified targetjobs listings.

What CBRE never publishes is who supplies the test. "Online job-focused testing" is the entire official description: no vendor, no time limit, no task list. Candidates in one 2026-cycle forum thread report that the stage was an Arctic Shores task-based assessment, with a feedback report scoring four categories on a 1 to 4 scale. That is one venue of candidate reports. CBRE has never confirmed it, Arctic Shores publishes no CBRE case study, and no candidate anywhere names which tasks CBRE uses. So this page tells you what the stage is called and what it reportedly feels like, and stops there rather than inventing a lineup.

One trap worth naming: CBRE’s targetjobs employer profile displays SHL prominently. SHL is there only as the sponsor of the award category CBRE won, not as CBRE’s assessment vendor. Prep sites that list Kenexa, Ramsay or Korn Ferry tests for CBRE are unverified and are not repeated here.

This page covers each stage with its source and confidence, the 2027 dates as they stood on 11 September 2026, how the GWS division, Ireland, Australia, Hong Kong and the US differ, and honest category practice while the vendor is unconfirmed.

2027 Graduate Scheme — Commercial Real Estate (UK Next Generation)

A 24-month scheme built around the RICS APC, structured for 2027 around three core areas: Valuations (including Business Rates), Capital Markets, and Leasing (including the Occupier Hub), with an area preference indicated at application. Two entry pathways: cognate (a RICS-accredited degree at 2:1) and non-cognate (any degree at 2:1, with a CBRE-funded part-time RICS Masters). Locations: London, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Oxford. Salary £30,000 to £32,000 plus benefits. Closing 25 October 2026; start September 2027. Process: online job-focused testing, phone screening, assessment center in December or January, interview.

2027 Graduate Scheme — Property Management (UK Next Generation)

A 24-month scheme inside the Property Management business, also toward the RICS APC, with the same cognate and non-cognate pathways. Locations: London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol. Salary £30,000 to £32,000. Closing 25 October 2026; start September 2027, with the same four-stage process.

2027 Graduate Scheme — Planning (UK Next Generation)

A 24-month Graduate Planners and Development Surveyors scheme leading to RTPI chartered town planner status (Birmingham, London, Manchester) or to RICS routes, again with cognate and non-cognate (day-release Masters) entry. Locations: Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Manchester. Salary £30,000 to £32,000. Closing 25 October 2026; start September 2027; same four stages.

2027 Graduate Scheme — Commercial Real Estate, Dublin (Ireland)

A three-year scheme covering a minimum of three departments (Agency, Asset Management, Capital Markets, Valuation), with the APC taken through the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland. Minimum 2:2; EUR 33,000 plus benefits. Closing 16 October 2026; start September 2027. The stages match the UK list, but the assessment center is held in October rather than December or January, so the Irish process compresses testing, phone screening and the center into a single month.

CBRE GWS Next Generation schemes (UK facilities-management division)

CBRE GWS (Global Workplace Solutions) recruits separately from the Advisory side, on its own calendar and with its own pathways: Energy, Sustainability and Governance (ESG), Project Management, Finance, and FM Leadership (the two-year Future Leaders Programme). CBRE’s 2027 GWS talent-community ad states that graduate scheme applications go live December to March and apprenticeships February to April. The ESG Graduate Scheme 2026 (18 months, London) closed 19 January 2026 with an assessment center in February and a formal face-to-face interview; GWS does not sponsor visas at graduate level. Its listed first stage is also "online job-focused testing", but no GWS candidate report ties that stage to any vendor, so whether it is the same test as the Advisory schemes is unknown.

Other UK Next Generation routes and apprenticeships

CBRE UK’s students page lists a three-year Engineering Graduate Scheme (toward IET chartered engineer), a three-year Finance Graduate Programme (an ACA apprenticeship with three one-year placements), a two-year Energy and Sustainability Graduate Programme in GWS, a four-week Next Generation Summer Internship in August, an industrial placement of up to 12 months, a 12-month GWS internship, and Chartered Surveyor and Engineering apprenticeships. CBRE also offers Forage virtual job simulations. Degree-apprenticeship applicants in a 2024-cycle thread describe the same shape of process as graduates (an online assessment shortly after applying, then telephone screening), though the apprenticeship assessment center and interview stages are undocumented.

Outside the UK and Ireland: different processes, no games reported

CBRE Australia runs a 12-month Graduate Program rotating through Valuations, Leasing, Capital Markets and Property Management; the 2027 cohort opened 20 July 2026, closed 9 August 2026, and commences 8 February 2027, and a listing notes applications may include a short video interview. CBRE Hong Kong runs an 18-month Graduate Trainee Programme with three business-line rotations and publishes no selection process. The US has no single graduate scheme: campus hiring runs by internship track (Capital Markets, Digital and Technology, GWS, Sales and Brokerage, Finance Summer Analyst, Property Management and others), and CBRE Investment Management recruits separately again. No game-based assessment is reported anywhere outside the UK.

How does the CBRE assessment work?

CBRE’s own description of the first stage is four words

Official source

Every 2027 UK graduate ad lists the process as "Online job-focused testing / Phone screening / Assessment Centre (held in December or January) / Interview". "Online job-focused testing" is the complete official description of the assessment. No vendor, no test type, no duration, no task list. CBRE’s verified targetjobs listing and its employer profile repeat the same four stages, so this is employer-verified on two separate pages.

The Arctic Shores report: one forum thread, unconfirmed by CBRE

Single source

Candidates in one 2026-cycle UK graduate forum thread report that the online job-focused testing stage was an Arctic Shores task-based assessment, sent within days of applying in early to mid October 2025, returning a feedback report that scored four categories on a 1 to 4 scale. Several posters in that thread compare their four-category results. That is a single venue: multiple posters inside one thread are one source, not independent corroboration. CBRE has never named a vendor, and Arctic Shores publishes no CBRE case study. Treat it as a candidate report, not a fact.

Source: The Student Room "Cbre grad 2026" thread

Arctic Shores lists no CBRE case study

Official source

The Arctic Shores case-study index was checked on 11 September 2026 and contains no CBRE entry, customer story or logo. No vendor-side source confirms the relationship in either direction.

Source: Arctic Shores case studies index, checked 11 Sept 2026

Nobody has named the tasks in CBRE’s battery

No evidence found

Not one candidate report, official page or vendor source names a single task CBRE uses. Posters describe only the shape of the feedback report, four categories out of 4. Employers who use task-based assessments configure their own subsets, so listing a generic vendor task list here would be guessing dressed as research. This page therefore names no CBRE games at all.

There is no published score, cutoff or benchmark

Single source

CBRE publishes nothing about how the testing result is used. Reported outcomes in the 2026 thread varied in both directions: one candidate with mixed category scores progressed to phone screening, while others reporting high scores were rejected. The reported score summary alone does not appear to determine the outcome, and how CBRE actually uses the result is not published. Anyone quoting you a CBRE pass mark is inventing it.

SHL is not CBRE’s vendor

Official source

CBRE’s targetjobs employer profile shows SHL prominently. SHL appears there purely as the sponsor of the targetjobs award category CBRE won (Graduate Employer of the Year 2026), not as a CBRE assessment supplier. A prep site also claims Kenexa, Ramsay and Korn Ferry Talent Q tests for CBRE; that is unverified prep-site content with no candidate or official corroboration, and it is not repeated on this page.

CBRE says it does not use AI to make hiring decisions

Official source

The 2027 ads carry an applicant AI-use disclosure: CBRE states it does not use AI tools to make hiring decisions, and asks candidates to disclose any use of AI in the application and interview process. That clause is new in the 2026 and 2027 requisitions.

Source: CBRE 2027 graduate scheme ads (applicant AI use disclosure)

The GWS division has historically used a video interview

Official source

CBRE GWS’s employer-authored Bright Network page, archived from December 2023 and still live, describes an application form (CV, optional cover letter, three 200-word competency questions), then a Sonru video interview with 72 hours to complete it, three competency questions of one minute each plus two minutes of free comments, then a 5 to 6 hour assessment center. Sonru was acquired by Modern Hire in 2020, and HireVue acquired Modern Hire in 2023. The more recent GWS ESG 2026 listing mentions no video interview and lists online job-focused testing instead, so this step may no longer be used. Date-check anything you read about the GWS process.

US early careers: one report of a video interview, no games

Single source

One US Global Finance Summer Analyst candidate report from December 2024 describes an online application, a six-question HireVue video interview, then a final-round day about a month later with two 30-minute rounds with senior staff, largely behavioral with light technicals. A HireVue video interview is not a game-based assessment. This is one candidate report, not CBRE’s standard US process, and no game-based assessment is reported for CBRE in the US at all.

What happens in the CBRE hiring process?

The UK Next Generation process (Commercial Real Estate, Property Management, Planning)

CBRE publishes these four stages verbatim on every 2027 UK graduate ad, and its verified targetjobs listings repeat them.

  1. 1Apply on the careers portal to a specific scheme, indicating your preferred core area where the ad asks for one, and complete the AI-use disclosure. Candidates in a 2024-cycle apprenticeship thread described the portal as fiddly, with profile creation taking a few attempts, so leave time.
  2. 2Complete the online job-focused testing when the invitation arrives. 2026-cycle candidates report it landing within days of applying. CBRE names no vendor; one thread reports Arctic Shores.
  3. 3Take the phone screening. Reported at roughly 5 to 10 minutes with 2 to 5 questions; 2026-cycle candidates received these emails in early November and were offered an optional preparation seminar beforehand.
  4. 4Attend the assessment center, held in December or January (October for Dublin, around February for GWS ESG). 2026-cycle candidates were invited to a Glasgow center around January, roughly two months after the phone screen, with Commercial Real Estate, Property Management and Planning applicants mixed in the group tasks.
  5. 5Complete the final interview, CBRE’s published last stage. Reports on its format are thin.

What the phone screening and assessment center actually involve

These details are candidate-reported, not published by CBRE. Treat them as what to prepare for, not as a script.

  1. 1Phone screen questions reported in the 2026 cycle: why CBRE and why this scheme or area, which other graduate schemes you have applied to, which CBRE core value you most identify with, plus a situational question. Several posters said not knowing the RISE values (Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence) hurt them, so learn them.
  2. 2Assessment center, group exercise: a task or pitch presented to assessors, with pre-read material. One 2024 ESG report describes around 40 candidates split into groups for two tasks.
  3. 3Assessment center, individual presentation: a topic given on the day with time to research it before presenting.
  4. 4Assessment center, questions: competency-based interviewing, with earlier UK reports describing questions from the recruitment team, HR and management. The GWS Bright Network page folds a competency interview into a 5 to 6 hour center day.
  5. 5ESG-scheme reports add an hour-long group discussion on delivering a business sustainability strategy and a 45-minute individual interview with technical questions on the sustainable built environment. Reported questions include why you want to work for CBRE and whether biodiversity or climate change matters more to the built environment.

Where other CBRE routes diverge

The four-stage process above is the UK Advisory route. Do not assume it applies to the division or country you applied to.

  1. 1CBRE GWS (facilities management) recruits on its own calendar, December to March, with assessment centers around February and, historically, a Sonru video interview described on its Bright Network page archived from December 2023. Its recent ESG listing names no video interview, so that step may be retired.
  2. 2Ireland runs a parallel three-year Dublin scheme with the same four stages but an assessment center in October and a 16 October 2026 closing date.
  3. 3Australia runs a 12-month Graduate Program on a July to August application window; one listing notes applications may include a short video interview. The 2027 cohort has already closed.
  4. 4Hong Kong runs an 18-month Graduate Trainee Programme and publishes no selection process.
  5. 5The US has no single graduate scheme. Campus hiring runs by internship track, and the only candidate evidence is one December 2024 report of a six-question HireVue video interview followed by a final-round day. No games are reported.
  6. 6CBRE Investment Management recruits separately again; one 2025 thread describes a digital interview first round, then behavioral and soft-technical interviews.

When is the CBRE assessment?

CBRE publishes hard closing dates for its UK and Ireland graduate schemes, unlike most of its regional programs. Everything below was checked on 11 September 2026. The 2027 ads were posted on 1 September 2026, and the previous cycle’s listing warned that a role may close before its stated closing date, so apply early rather than on the deadline.

CBRE’s ads state a 25 October 2026 closing date and a September 2027 start, and the verified targetjobs listing gives the same dates. In the previous cycle, candidates who applied in early October received the testing invitation within days and phone-screening emails in early November, then assessment-center invitations around January. Salary is advertised at £30,000 to £32,000.

Candidates were told to expect a phone-screen outcome in two to three weeks or by the end of November; in practice some waited about two months for the assessment-center invitation, and rejections after the center arrived within days. How to practice for the CBRE assessment

Because the vendor is unconfirmed and the task list unknown, the honest preparation order for CBRE is inverted from a typical games page: the stages you can actually prepare for are the phone screen, the assessment center and the interview, and they are all well documented by candidates. Do those first.

For the testing stage itself, get comfortable with the general shape of a timed online assessment, and then read your invitation email. If it names Arctic Shores, work through the hub for format familiarity. If it names something else, prepare from that publisher’s own material and let us know so this page can be corrected.

Our practice metrics track your improvement on the generic exercises. CBRE publishes no scoring model, no cutoff and no benchmark, and reported outcomes in the one available thread ran in both directions, so do not chase a target number that nobody outside CBRE can see.

Step 1

Read your invitation email before anything else

It is the only document that names the platform, the exercises, the time limits and the device rules. Everything on this page is context around it, not a substitute for it.

Step 2

Learn the RISE values and have an answer ready

Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence. The phone screen reportedly asks which one you most identify with, and several 2026-cycle candidates said not knowing them cost them. Pick one, and attach a specific example from your own experience rather than a definition.

Step 3

Script the rest of the phone screen

Why CBRE and why this scheme or core area, which other graduate schemes you have applied to (answer honestly and briefly), and one situational question. The call is reportedly 5 to 10 minutes, so answers need to be tight: two or three sentences, one example, stop.

Step 4

Know the area you picked

The 2027 Commercial Real Estate scheme asks for a preference among Valuations, Capital Markets and Leasing at application, and the scheme runs toward the RICS APC. Be able to say why that area and what you understand the work to involve.

Step 5

Build a timed-assessment baseline

One run each of Switch Challenge and Grid Challenge shows whether instructions-under-pressure or sustained accuracy is your weak point. These are other employers’ exercises used as generic practice; treat them as conditioning, not as a preview of CBRE’s battery.

Step 6

Rehearse a present-on-the-day task

The assessment center gives you a topic and time to research it, then you present. Practice the compression: 20 minutes of reading into a three-point structure you can deliver without notes, plus one question you would expect an assessor to ask and your answer to it.

Step 7

Prepare for the group exercise as a contributor, not a winner

Reported formats mix candidates from different schemes into a group task pitched to assessors. Build in the habits assessors mark: bringing a quiet person in, summarizing where the group has got to, and keeping the group to time.

Step 8

Set up real test conditions for the online stage

Quiet room, laptop or desktop, notifications off, one sitting. Candidates in a 2024-cycle thread found the application portal itself fiddly, so leave buffer time before a deadline rather than starting on the last evening.

CBRE assessment FAQ

Does CBRE use Arctic Shores?

CBRE has never said so. Its ads name the first stage only as "online job-focused testing", with no vendor anywhere. Candidates in one 2026-cycle UK graduate forum thread report that the stage was an Arctic Shores task-based assessment, and Arctic Shores publishes no CBRE case study either way. That is a single-source candidate report, not a confirmed fact. Read the platform name off your invitation email, and if it names a vendor, tell us so this page can be corrected.

What is CBRE’s "online job-focused testing"?

Those four words are the entire official description. CBRE publishes no vendor, no test type, no duration and no task list. Candidates in one 2026-cycle thread describe a task-based assessment arriving within days of applying and returning a feedback report that scored four categories on a 1 to 4 scale. Nobody has named the individual tasks.

Which games does CBRE use?

No source names a single one. Not CBRE, not a vendor case study, not any candidate report. Employers who run task-based assessments configure their own subsets, so any page listing a CBRE game lineup is guessing. Prepare for the format generally, then follow the exercises your own invitation lists.

What score do I need to pass the CBRE assessment?

CBRE publishes no cutoff, pass mark or benchmark. Candidate-reported outcomes in the one available thread went in both directions: someone with mixed category scores progressed to the phone screen while others reporting high scores were rejected. How CBRE uses the result is not published, so there is no number to aim at.

What is the full CBRE graduate process, and when is the deadline?

For the UK Next Generation schemes: online job-focused testing, phone screening, an assessment center held in December or January, then an interview. The 2027 intake closes 25 October 2026 for the UK schemes and 16 October 2026 for Dublin, both for a September 2027 start. The GWS division, Australia, Hong Kong, India and the US all run different processes on different calendars.

What happens in the CBRE phone screening?

Candidates report a short call, roughly 5 to 10 minutes with 2 to 5 questions: why CBRE, which other graduate schemes you have applied to, which CBRE core value you identify with (RISE: Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence), and a situational question. Several posters said not knowing the RISE values hurt them.

Does CBRE use a video interview or HireVue?

Not in the published UK Advisory graduate process, which lists no video stage. CBRE’s GWS division has historically described a Sonru video interview on its own Bright Network page, archived from December 2023, but its more recent ESG listing mentions no video interview, so that step may no longer be used. In the US, one candidate report from December 2024 describes a HireVue video interview followed by a final-round day. A HireVue video interview is not a game-based assessment.

Does CBRE use SHL, Kenexa or Korn Ferry tests?

There is no evidence for any of them. SHL appears on CBRE’s targetjobs employer profile only as the sponsor of the award category CBRE won, not as an assessment supplier. The Kenexa, Ramsay and Korn Ferry claims come from a prep site with no candidate or official corroboration. CBRE names no vendor at all.

Game Assessment Prep is independent and is not affiliated with CBRE or HireVue. Employer processes can change by program, role, country, and recruiting cycle. Follow your invitation over this guide.
