What to expect in the Bending Spoons assessment

The documented categories are problem-solving challenges, role-specific assessments and behavioral tests. The company explains that unfamiliar reasoning is intentional: it wants evidence of how candidates approach new problems. That supports broad reasoning preparation, but does not identify a particular commercial game library.

Good to know: No exact Bending Spoons simulator is established here. Use the task instructions to identify the relevant skills; a familiar-looking puzzle is not evidence that its scoring or rules match another provider’s test.

Which Bending Spoons roles and programs does this guide cover?

Treat a Bending Spoons invitation as a set of instructions for one position. A software engineering task and a commercial task may seek different evidence even when both appear under the same employer name. Start by identifying the role, task instructions and completion deadline before choosing practice material.

The company describes a deliberate emphasis on potential as well as existing expertise. That makes a polished résumé only one part of the application: prepare to demonstrate your reasoning, explain choices and discuss what you learned when an earlier approach failed.

Software engineering

The published software engineer role combines production ownership, architecture simplification and work across different technical stacks. It also offers flexible starts and the possibility of beginning part-time before graduation. This is a role-specific route, rather than evidence of a single annual graduate intake.

Sales Bootcamp

The published Milan bootcamp runs November 2026–January 2027 and targets Europe-based final-year students or recent graduates. Selection is online: application, logic and behavioral challenges, then a final interview. Prior sales experience is not required.

Experienced specialist roles

The US legal counsel listing requires a law degree and some relevant experience, with work spanning acquisitions, contracts, product launches and practical risk advice. It still describes tests after screening. Professional expertise does not make the process an interview-only route.

How does the Bending Spoons assessment work?

Tasks are designed around the role

Official source

Bending Spoons explains that its recruiting team identifies the important qualities for each position and may assess reasoning, domain knowledge and behavioral characteristics. Its November 2024 article describes an evolving methodology, not a fixed test product.

Allow for a substantial commitment

Official source

The software engineer vacancy warns that tests may take several hours. That is an estimate of workload, not a published timer for every individual task or a promise that all candidates receive identical assessments.

Interviews differ

Official source

The application guide lists behavioral, problem-solving and technical interviews, including combinations. Number and duration depend on the job. It recommends specific examples and says your recruiter will explain what to expect.

One application and reapplication

Official source

The FAQ allows one active application while considering candidates against other openings. Following an unsuccessful process, it asks candidates to wait at least a year before applying for a similar job.

Provider and scoring limits

No evidence found

The reviewed employer materials do not establish one external assessment provider, universal game names or a numerical pass mark. A vendor-specific simulator should not be treated as a replica of the Bending Spoons assessment.

The general application route

The official application guide gives a framework and explicitly allows differences between jobs.

  1. 1Screening considers the application; the guide recommends a concise CV and a focused cover letter.

  3. 3The interview stage explores fit and may include technical or problem-solving work.
  4. 4A hiring committee considers the accumulated evidence before the final decision.

Why the evaluation can differ between teams

The company’s recruitment-methodology article explains the design choices behind that framework.

  1. 1The team establishes which qualities matter for a particular position.
  2. 2Tasks can examine how someone reasons, their current domain expertise and their motivation or ownership.
  3. 3The recruiting team assembles evidence for a committee whose membership reflects the role.

How to prepare for the Bending Spoons assessment process

The suggestions below are preparation exercises, not reported interview questions. Aim to make your thinking easy to follow and your evidence easy to verify.

1. Build an evidence inventory

Choose three achievements relevant to the vacancy. For each, write the initial problem, your specific responsibility, a measurable outcome and what you would change now. Remove claims you cannot explain under follow-up questioning.

2. Practice a new problem from first principles

Use an unfamiliar logic or estimation exercise. State assumptions, test a small example, look for a counterexample and check the result. Afterwards, diagnose whether errors came from interpreting the rule, choosing a method or rushing.

3. Prepare an engineering walkthrough

For software roles, choose one project and rehearse its data flow, failure modes, testing decisions and a simplification you would make. Explain one rejected design and its tradeoff. This is a useful practice exercise rather than a promised interview format.

4. Connect specialist knowledge to a business decision

For commercial roles, practice turning a messy customer or market problem into a short recommendation. For legal roles, prepare an example of offering practical options while making uncertainty and consequences clear. Keep the explanation understandable to a colleague outside your specialty.

5. Plan around the actual invitation

Check whether tasks have separate deadlines or must be completed together. Reserve uninterrupted time accordingly. Use any role-specific preparation information you receive to prioritize; avoid spending all your time on an assumed puzzle format.
