What to expect in the Arm assessment

Arm confirms a digital interview and possible technical assessment, but does not describe a reproducible game format. There is no supported employer-specific game list here.

Good to know: Choose practice around the task actually named in your invitation. A confirmed HireVue interview does not mean HireVue games are part of the process.

Which Arm roles and programs does this guide cover?

Arm’s published process emphasizes interest in the role and relevant technical ability. Graduate, internship and apprenticeship candidates should also check their programme’s location and eligibility requirements.

Use the stages below as an overview. Your recruiter and invitation provide the precise format for the vacancy.

Global graduate opportunities

Arm’s graduate page covers software, chip design and intellectual property. Applicants must complete a degree before joining; bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral qualifications are welcomed. Individual job requirements still control eligibility.

UK graduate and internship programmes

UK graduate programmes last two years and start in September. The UK page also lists internships of three, six or twelve months across technical and business disciplines. These are programme lengths, not selection durations.

Internship selection

The internship page describes application review, an initial virtual interview, and a final conversation with prospective colleagues and leaders, while allowing location differences.

UK apprenticeships

Arm offers Levels 4–6 apprenticeships for school or college leavers and career changers. Check the advert’s academic requirements; programme structure does not establish a separate assessment-centre stage.

How does the Arm assessment work?

Digital answers and technical work

Official source

The Emerging Talent digital interview can include webcam responses or typed answers. Some roles also include a short technical assessment; Arm does not specify a universal coding language or task format.

Invitation window versus duration

Official source

Published digital guidance gives seven days to complete the interview and suggests reserving about an hour. That planning allowance is not a fixed test duration.

Practice and review

Official source

Arm provides a practice-question option and says real people review applications. Its page permits repeated video answers; follow your invitation’s settings and do not assume technical tasks have the same retry rules.

Later interviews are role-specific

Official source

Further interviews can examine technical topics more deeply. Candidates may meet talent acquisition staff, the hiring manager and future teammates.

Games and scoring remain unspecified

No evidence found

The reviewed official guidance does not establish a mandatory game lineup, common aptitude-test battery, pass mark or technical-assessment vendor. HireVue confirmation concerns the documented digital interview route.

What happens in the Arm hiring process?

Arm’s general interview sequence

The official hiring overview covers both Emerging Talent and experienced roles, with regional variation.

  1. 1Submit a role-specific application, then attend the initial digital or telephone interview if selected.
  2. 2Continue with interviews exploring relevant skills and working with the team. This is not a fixed promise of exactly two interviews.
  3. 3Review the offer if successful. Your recruiter can clarify arrangements and support needs throughout.

What graduate interviews explore

The graduate page describes the purpose of its initial and final conversations.

  1. 1The initial virtual interview explores motivation, thinking and approaches to problem-solving.
  2. 2The final discussion brings in potential teammates and leaders and considers how you contribute and collaborate.
  3. 3Prepare evidence of decisions and teamwork from academic, personal or professional projects.

How to prepare for the Arm assessment process

These practice suggestions target the published interview themes without predicting confidential questions.

1. Explain one project from first principles

Choose a project relevant to the vacancy. Rehearse its purpose, architecture, your contribution, a difficult bug or trade-off, and the evidence that the solution worked. Include an improvement you would make now.

2. Match fundamentals to the discipline

Build a short revision list from the advert. For software this might include data structures or systems concepts; for hardware, digital logic or verification. These are practice examples, not a confirmed Arm syllabus.

3. Practice reasoning aloud

Try an unfamiliar problem and explain assumptions before choosing a solution. Compare alternatives and test edge cases. Review whether a listener can follow your reasoning without already knowing your project.

4. Make motivation specific

Connect your interests to the team’s work and the skills you want to develop. Prepare a concise example of curiosity, initiative or collaboration, followed by questions about the role’s technical challenges.

5. Rehearse the response format

Record a brief project explanation and review its clarity. For a digital invitation, use the provided practice option and check microphone, camera, instructions and completion deadline before starting.

Arm assessment FAQ

Does every Arm candidate take HireVue?

No universal requirement is published. Arm’s general process gives a digital HireVue interview or a telephone interview as alternatives.

Does Arm use game assessments?

The reviewed official pages do not establish an Arm game battery. Some digital-route roles have a technical assessment, which is not evidence of games.

Is the digital interview one hour long?

Arm recommends reserving approximately an hour. That is preparation guidance, not a standardized duration; the completion window is a separate limit.

Can I apply to multiple Arm roles?

Yes. Arm recommends a coherent disciplinary focus and expects candidates to explain their interest in the particular opportunity.

Is the graduate conference an assessment centre?

No. The graduate page describes the conference as a development event for graduates after joining, separate from recruitment.
