What to expect in the AlphaSights assessment

The available employer evidence supports interviews and a possible HeyMilo exercise, but not a particular set of assessment games. Treat this section as a guide to the evidence before choosing practice.

Good to know: No game simulator is mapped here because a current, role-specific game format has not been established. HeyMilo's name alone does not identify a memory, numerical, or pattern-recognition test.

Which AlphaSights roles and programs does this guide cover?

AlphaSights Client Service connects clients with relevant experts and coordinates their interactions. Explain why you want to deliver that service and show how you handle deadlines and competing requests.

Specialist engineering roles require different preparation from Client Service internships. Use the actual vacancy and invitation to identify your assessment format.

Client Service Associates

The careers hub welcomes different degree disciplines and describes interviews assessing commercial instinct, communication, and resilience. Check the local vacancy for academic, language, and work-authorization requirements.

Internships and placements

AlphaSights says internships and placements closely reflect the Graduate Associate role, including training and live client projects. Some participants receive return offers. Similarity in work does not establish identical selection exercises.

How does the AlphaSights assessment work?

HeyMilo is a conditional, officially named exercise

Official source

The open-roles page states that, from August 14, 2025, certain roles may involve HeyMilo. It does not say all applicants take it or publish the question count, timing, scoring method, or position in every hiring sequence.

Case and performance questions have an employer source

Official source

In a December 4, 2022 answer on Indeed, the AlphaSights team described role-dependent interviews that often included behavioral, case-study, and performance-based questions. This is useful historical context, not a current promise of a specific case or number of rounds.

Company values provide a preparation framework

Official source

AlphaSights identifies results orientation, drive, empathy, adaptability, and humility as its hiring and development values. Prepare evidence of your behavior against these themes, without assuming a published numerical rubric or a fixed question for each value.

A global test specification is unavailable

No evidence found

The reviewed employer guidance does not establish a universal psychometric battery, game list, pass mark, or retake policy. This does not rule out additional assessments for a particular vacancy. Match practice to the exercise named in your invitation.

What happens in the AlphaSights hiring process?

What the published interview guidance establishes

The Client Service careers hub gives a broad application-to-interview approach rather than a fixed list of rounds.

  1. 1Retain the vacancy description and prepare against its specific requirements.
  2. 2The published interview themes are commercial judgment, communication, and handling pressure. Prepare concise examples that make your individual contribution clear.
  3. 3Use the discussion to assess the job as well: prepare questions about priorities, coaching, and what successful work looks like in that office.

Turn the Client Service role into a practice exercise

AlphaSights describes taking briefs, finding suitable experts, coordinating interactions, and managing multiple projects. The following is suggested practice based on those responsibilities, not a reproduced selection task.

  1. 1Write a fictional client brief with one clear research objective. Identify the information missing before you begin searching.
  2. 2Describe three types of expert who might help, and explain what each could know from direct experience. Distinguish relevance from seniority or a recognizable employer name.
  3. 3Add a late change to the brief and a competing deadline. Explain how you would reprioritize and communicate the change without losing the client's objective.

When is the AlphaSights assessment?

Check the individual vacancy and invitation. A programme year identifies an intake, not a universal application deadline or assessment expiry.

How to prepare for the AlphaSights assessment process

The strongest preparation combines understanding the service with evidence from your own experience. These exercises are suggestions for practice before an assessment.

1. Explain the service clearly

In your own words, describe a client's research need, why an experienced expert could help, and what you would do to make the interaction happen. Keep the explanation concrete enough for someone unfamiliar with expert networks.

2. Build examples with measurable outcomes

Choose examples of competing deadlines, a difficult conversation, and a setback. Explain your decision, contribution, result, and subsequent improvement. Study, employment, sport, or volunteering can provide useful evidence.

3. Practice responding to changing information

Ask a practice partner to change one assumption halfway through your answer. Pause, identify the consequence, and update your plan. The objective is clear reasoning and composure, not a polished speech that ignores new facts.

4. Make preparation specific to the vacancy

For engineering, prepare a project walkthrough covering design, debugging, and user impact. For a language-specific Client Service role, practice explaining your work in that language. Follow the actual exercise instructions.

AlphaSights assessment FAQ

Does AlphaSights use HeyMilo?

Yes, its official vacancies page says certain roles may use a HeyMilo exercise. It does not establish universal use or publish one format for every candidate.

How many AlphaSights interview rounds are there?

The current employer overview does not give one fixed number. The sequence depends on the vacancy; use the instructions from the recruitment team for your application.

Is the Client Service interview a consulting case?

Do not assume it is. The employer has historically mentioned case and performance questions, but preparation should focus on the work of understanding a brief, finding relevant expertise, and communicating decisions. No specific case is guaranteed.

Should internship applicants prepare differently?

Use the internship's eligibility and location details, while preparing examples relevant to Client Service work. AlphaSights says internships mirror the Associate role, but that does not confirm an identical interview sequence.

Which assessment games should I practice?

There is no verified current game list for all AlphaSights applicants. Start with role knowledge and interview examples, then choose format-specific practice if your invitation names a test.
