HireVue is the vendor, in Target’s own words
Official sourceTarget’s recorded-video-interview page names "Hirevue" outright and repeatedly, including directing candidates with technical trouble to "the Hirevue Candidate Help Center". A Target-branded tenant at targetcareers.hirevue.com also resolves, though it renders only a bare "HireVue Redirecting..." page with no visible Target branding — corroborating, not decisive. The vendor claim rests on Target’s own page, which is as strong as vendor evidence gets.

It is a video interview, not a game-based assessment
Official sourceThis is the single most important thing on this page. Target’s HireVue page describes recording answers to pre-recorded questions and nothing else — no games, no cognitive exercises, no personality battery. HireVue’s published case-study list does not include Target either. Plenty of employers do run HireVue game batteries; on every source we could find, Target is not one of them.

About 30 minutes, and there are no retakes
Official sourceTarget tells candidates to plan for about 30 minutes total. A practice question is offered first, and you can watch your own practice response back. Then: "Target does not allow retakes on recorded video interviews." An introduction video plays before the questions and cannot be replayed, so watch it properly the first time.

A human reviews your answers, not an algorithm
Official sourceTarget states that "the hiring manager or recruiter will review and evaluate your video responses". Nothing on Target’s page describes automated or AI scoring, and we make no claim that any exists. Record for a person watching later, not for a scoring engine.

You must answer without AI help
Official sourceTarget requires that responses "must reflect your personal understanding and judgment, without reliance on external AI-generated assistance", except where an approved accommodation applies. Accommodations are arranged through candidate.accommodations@HRHelp.Target.com. Rehearse as much as you like beforehand; sit the real recording unaided.

How many questions? Target does not say, and prep sites contradict each other
AnecdotalTarget publishes neither the question count nor the per-question preparation and answer times. Prep sites variously claim two to five, three to five, five to eight, and six questions, with 30 seconds to two minutes of preparation and two to three minutes to answer. Numbers that disagree that widely are the signature of sites copying and embellishing one another rather than observing. We will not print a number Target does not publish — plan around the 30-minute total instead.

The application questionnaire exists, but Target names no vendor
Official sourceTarget’s hiring-process page says "Some applications may require supplemental information like work availability or a quick assessment regarding job-related skills." That is all. Prep sites describe a combined situational-judgment and personality questionnaire of roughly 20 to 30 minutes, and one attributes it to a named test publisher with no citation — while another prep site explicitly concedes that "Target does not say who builds the questionnaire, so prepare for the question types rather than one publisher’s house style." We take the second one’s word for it and name no vendor. Prepare for judgment-style questions about availability, reliability and guest service; do not prepare for a specific publisher’s house format.

Device requirements are deliberately loose
Official sourceTarget says you can use any smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone, and recommends Google Chrome if you use a computer. Because there are no retakes, the sensible reading is to pick the device you can keep steady and quiet for half an hour, not the most convenient one.

Complete it promptly, and expect an answer in about five business days
Official sourceTarget warns candidates to complete the recorded interview promptly or "you will no longer be considered", and says candidates typically hear back within five business days of the video being received. Target does not publish the exact window you get, so the invitation email is the binding document.

No pymetrics, Arctic Shores, Aon, Criteria, SHL or McKinsey Solve
No evidence foundWe searched specifically for each of these at Target and found nothing — no official page, no vendor case study, no prep-site claim worth repeating. If you are being pointed at pymetrics games or an Arctic Shores battery "for Target", nothing supports it. The vendors do exist at other employers on this site; they are not evidenced here.

Independent candidate corroboration is thin, and we are saying so
No evidence foundBoth of the usual independent channels failed during research: one major candidate-review site returned HTTP 403 and the main community forum blocked scripted access. Nothing on this page rests on either, and we do not cite them. That does not weaken the vendor claim — Target’s own page beats candidate reports — but it does mean per-role details like round counts and end-to-end timings come from prep sites and are hedged accordingly throughout.
