The Apple interview process, explained

What Apple actually screens with, why there are no games to practice, the stages in retail, support and corporate, and where the HireVue evidence stops.

By the Game Assessment Prep research teamUpdated September 12, 2026How we research

The Apple interview rounds at a glance

  1. 1Online application — Apply directly at jobs.apple.com. Roles are posted per team on a rolling basis — there is no single dated Apple graduate scheme and no published deadline. Apple’s listings describe no test, assessment or interview stage at all.Programs and deadlines
  2. 2Recruiter screen — A short call, by phone or video, covering communication, availability and motivation. Widely reported across retail, support and corporate. Apple publishes nothing about it, so format varies by team and role.
  3. 3Recorded video interview — support roles only, and dated — Reported mainly for AppleCare At-Home Advisor and the Apple Support College Program. An Apple HireVue tenant is live, but the named reports run 2017-2022 and we found no dated 2024-2026 account. Do not assume this stage. What the video stage involves Apple video interview questions
  4. 4Live group interview — retail — The best-supported current retail stage: roughly 45 to 60 minutes with several candidates interviewed together, behavioral questions and sometimes role-play of a customer interaction. No test, no recorded video.
  5. 5Technical screens and onsite loop — corporate and engineering — One to two live technical screens on a shared coding tool or over video, then a long onsite loop commonly reported as four to seven interviews. Loops are team-owned, so the format is written by the hiring team.
  6. 6Debrief and offer — Interviewers submit written feedback and a panel reaches a decision. Reported on secondary career sites only; no Apple page describes it. Long silences after the onsite are commonly described as normal.

What games are in the Apple assessment?

There is nothing to practice here, and that is the finding rather than a gap in our research. Apple runs no game-based assessment — no pymetrics battery, no Arctic Shores tasks, no Aon challenges, no Criteria Cognify or Emotify, no HireVue game battery. We list no practice games for Apple because listing any would imply a stage that no evidence supports. If you have Apple time to spend, spend it on recorded-answer practice for the support video interview and on live interview preparation for retail or corporate; both are linked from the preparation section below.

Good to know: If your Apple invitation names a game, a gamified exercise or a cognitive battery, we are wrong about your role and we want to know — that would be the first evidence of its kind. Until then, the honest position is that Apple screens with interviews, and in some support roles a recorded video interview, and with nothing else that we can substantiate. Other employers on this site genuinely do run game batteries; if you are also applying to those, our vendor hubs at /hirevue, /pymetrics, /arctic-shores, /aon and /criteria are the right places, but do not carry them over to Apple.

Who gets the Apple assessment?

If you landed here looking for Apple’s games, the honest answer is that there are none. We searched specifically for pymetrics, Arctic Shores, Aon, Criteria and a HireVue game battery at Apple and found nothing — no Apple page, no vendor case study, no candidate report. Apple does not run a gamified assessment, and any site telling you to practice a game battery for Apple is selling you preparation for a stage that does not exist.

The one vendor with real evidence is HireVue, and only for recorded one-way video interviews. An Apple-branded HireVue tenant is live — apple.hirevue.com returns HTTP 200 from HireVue’s production application, which we verified directly in September 2026 — so Apple is provisioned on HireVue for something. What that does not prove is that any particular 2026 role is screened through it. The candidate reports naming HireVue cluster on AppleCare At-Home Advisor and the Apple Support College Program, and they run 2017 to 2022; the only clearly dated artifact we could read is a single July 2022 post on Blind with no replies. We could not find a dated 2024-2026 first-person account for any Apple role.

Apple itself publishes nothing. Its retail careers page, its students page and its live job listings describe no test, no assessment, no video interview and no interview stage of any kind, and there is no "how we hire" page (that URL returns a 404). So everything below about stages comes from candidates and career sites, labeled with how strong each claim is. Two widely repeated claims — that Apple uses SHL’s OPQ32 via TalentCentral, and that it uses pymetrics, Sonru or HackerRank — appear only on prep sites that, when we fetched them, cite no Apple page, no vendor page and no linked candidate report. We do not repeat them as fact, and neither should you.

One more thing worth knowing: Apple’s loops are team-owned. The recruiter, the screens and the panel all sit inside the team you applied to, so two Apple engineers will describe two different processes and both will be telling the truth. There is no central Apple question bank and no common assessment window.

Apple Internships

Summer internships and academic-year co-ops for full-time students in bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate programs, across technical and nontechnical fields. Apple’s page says an intern is "welcomed as a full contributor — a true part of the team". Listings are posted per team and recruited rolling, not through a single dated graduate scheme, and the page describes no assessment, deadline or interview stage.

Apple Support College Advisor (Apple Support College Program)

A part-time role at participating universities, answering product questions and troubleshooting for Apple customers, with Apple providing the training. This is the program candidate reports most often associate with a HireVue recorded video interview — but those reports are dated 2017 to 2022. When we checked jobs.apple.com in September 2026 the US AppleCare College Program filter returned no open roles, which suggests the program recruits in cycles tied to the academic year rather than continuously.

Apple Store and Retail Partner Store roles

Part-time and full-time store roles open to students, with no tech experience required. Apple’s retail careers page groups them into Sales, Support and Leadership. Seasonal fixed-term contracts also run over the holiday period. Nothing on the page describes an application process, an interview format or an assessment of any kind.

Finance Development Program (FDP)

A rotational program for entry-level finance talent, reported as 12 to 18 months with roughly four to six rotations across Apple Finance before a move into a non-rotating Financial Analyst role, recruited through summer internships based in Cupertino. Applications are reported to require a resume, cover letter and unofficial transcript. This detail comes from a job-board mirror of Apple’s posting rather than from an Apple page, and when we fetched the underlying jobs.apple.com listing it had already expired — Apple’s postings roll over quickly, so check the live listing.

UK Services apprenticeships (reported, dates unverified)

A UK apprenticeship intake covering Project Management and Marketing roles has been reported on a third-party graduate site. We could not access that listing — it returned HTTP 403 — so we cannot confirm the application window or even which year it refers to. Do not plan around any date you see quoted for it; check Apple’s UK careers site directly.

Everything else at Apple

Corporate, engineering, machine learning, hardware, design, operations and Apple Media Products roles are posted individually on jobs.apple.com with no program structure, no cohort and no published process. Apple notes that most corporate roles require English-language skills. There is no evidence of any assessment stage in any of them.

How does the Apple assessment work?

Apple runs no game-based assessment — this is the headline

No evidence found

Two independent searches for Apple alongside pymetrics, Arctic Shores, Aon, Criteria, Cognify and HireVue game batteries returned nothing with an Apple connection: no Apple page, no vendor case study, no candidate report, not even a specific prep-site claim worth rebutting. There is no Apple game battery to practice. If a site is offering you Apple game simulators, it is inventing the stage.

An Apple HireVue tenant is live — and that proves less than it looks like

Single source

apple.hirevue.com returns HTTP 200 from HireVue’s production application; the response headers include x-hvapi-environment: prod and HireVue-specific content-security-policy directives. We verified this by direct HTTP request on 12 September 2026. What the response actually is, though, is a 237-byte login shell carrying x-robots-tag: nofollow. It confirms Apple is provisioned as a HireVue customer for something, at some point. It does not tell you that any 2026 role is screened through it, and HireVue’s own public customer pages name IKEA and Emirates, not Apple.

The HireVue candidate evidence stops around 2022

Single source

The named reports cluster on AppleCare At-Home Advisor and the Apple Support College Program and run 2017 to 2022. The only clearly dated first-person artifact we could read is a Blind post from 19 July 2022 asking what questions Apple asks in its "Hirevue Video (digital) interview" — confirming a candidate met the stage that year, though the post has no replies so it yields no question content. We found no clearly dated 2024-2026 first-person HireVue report for any Apple role. Treat this stage as possible, not expected.

It is a video interview, never a game

Single source

Where the HireVue stage is reported, it is a recorded one-way interview: roughly three to five questions, about 30 seconds to prepare each answer, up to three minutes to record, commonly one take. It contains no cognitive games and no gamified exercises. HireVue also no longer uses facial analysis in scoring, so advice built around "what your face is doing" is out of date regardless of employer.

HireVue is not Apple’s retail process

Single source

Recent retail accounts describe phone or video recruiter screens followed by live group and panel interviews, with no recorded video stage anywhere. The HireVue evidence sits in US support hiring. If you are applying to an Apple Store, prepare for a live room, not a webcam recording.

Apple’s own pages describe no assessment at all

Official source

We fetched Apple’s retail careers page, its students page, its US careers landing page and live listings on jobs.apple.com. None of them mentions a test, an assessment, a video interview or any interview stage. Apple publishes no hiring-process page — apple.com/careers/us/how-we-hire.html returns 404. The absence is itself informative: unlike Shell, Nomura or Unilever, Apple has never told candidates what to expect, which is why every stage description you will find, including ours, is reconstructed from candidates.

The "Apple uses SHL OPQ32" claim cites nothing

No evidence found

A prep site states that Apple contracted SHL via TalentCentral to run an OPQ32 personality questionnaire for retail, support and some corporate roles. We fetched that page. It cites no Apple page, no SHL page, no screenshot and no linked candidate report — only paraphrased, unlinked forum quotes and internal links to its own products. No Apple listing mentions a personality questionnaire. We are not repeating the claim as fact and you should not prepare for it.

Source: CareerTestPrep "Apple SHL Test", fetched September 2026 — negative result, cites no source

The pymetrics, Sonru and HackerRank claims are the same problem

No evidence found

A second prep site names HireVue, Sonru, pymetrics and HackerRank alongside Apple. Fetched, it provides no citation of any kind — and it does not even assert Apple uses pymetrics, it says mock interviews "simulate platforms like HireVue, Sonru, and Pymetrics", while miscategorizing pymetrics as a video-interview platform, which is simply wrong. That single sentence is the likely origin of every "Apple uses pymetrics" result you will find. Indian job aggregators separately describe an online coding test plus aptitude section for Apple India campus drives; no primary source confirms it and Apple’s listings mention no test, so treat it as unconfirmed and separate from US and European hiring.

No AI assistants during live stages

Single source

Apple’s interview policy is reported to prohibit the use of AI assistants during live interviews, coding exercises and take-home work. This comes from a secondary careers site rather than an Apple page, but it matches the direction of travel at every large employer. Practice with whatever you like beforehand; sit the real thing alone.

What happens in the Apple hiring process?

Apple Retail: recruiter screen, then a live group interview

The best-evidenced current retail path, reconstructed from candidate accounts. Apple publishes none of it, and there is no test at any point.

  1. 1Apply at jobs.apple.com. Retail postings give responsibilities, location, hours and a role number — no interview format, no assessment and no application workflow.
  2. 2A short recruiter call, by phone or video, covering communication, availability and motivation. Formats vary by store and team.
  3. 3A live group interview, reported at roughly 45 to 60 minutes, with several candidates in the room together: group introductions, interactive activities and scenario-based exercises, with behavioral questions put to candidates in turn. The exact number of candidates is reported inconsistently and we could not verify it.
  4. 4A conversation with a store leader, sometimes as a panel. One candidate on Apple’s user-run discussion forum described being told to expect an invitation to interview with a store leader after an earlier virtual event.
  5. 5Decision. Retail processes are commonly described as closing within about two to four weeks.

A virtual "Get to Know Apple" event — one 2021 anecdote, not a standard stage

You will see this listed confidently elsewhere as a retail stage. Here is exactly how much evidence there is for it.

  1. 1One retail candidate, posting on Apple Support Communities in 2021, wrote a single sentence: after attending a virtual "get to know apple" event they received an email saying to expect an interview invitation with an Apple store leader.
  2. 2That is the whole source. There is no description of the format, no platform named, no timing, no content and no second candidate account anywhere we could find.
  3. 3The retail guide that otherwise corroborates the group-interview stage does not mention this event at all.
  4. 4Note also that discussions.apple.com is a user forum despite the apple.com domain — in this very thread a community moderator replies "We are just users. We have no special insight into Apple hiring practices."
  5. 5Treat it as a single dated anecdote. If you are invited to something like it, it reads as an information session rather than a scored stage, but nothing documents that either.

AppleCare and support roles: where the recorded video interview lives

This is the only part of Apple where HireVue has real, if dated, candidate evidence. Read it as "possible", not "expected".

  1. 1Apply at jobs.apple.com. The Apple Support College Advisor role is listed on Apple’s students page; the US College Program filter returned no open roles when we checked in September 2026, so recruiting appears to be cyclical.
  2. 2A recruiter screen.
  3. 3Where it is used, a recorded one-way video interview: roughly three to five questions, about 30 seconds to prepare, up to three minutes to answer, commonly one take. Practice the questions at /hirevue/questions/apple.
  4. 4A live interview with managers, commonly reported to include role-play in which the interviewer plays a customer and you take the call.
  5. 5Background check, equipment shipping and a paid training program. Candidate accounts put application to start at roughly two to three months in total.

Corporate and engineering: screens and a team-owned onsite loop

No test, no game, no recorded video that we can evidence. The whole process is live conversations run by the hiring team.

  1. 1Apply at jobs.apple.com, or be contacted by a recruiter.
  2. 2Recruiter screen, then often a hiring-manager screen.
  3. 3One to two live technical screens on a shared coding tool or over video. Format varies by team because Apple loops are team-owned; there is no central question bank.
  4. 4An onsite or virtual onsite loop, commonly reported as four to seven interviews and frequently described as a four to eight hour day, covering coding, system design, domain depth and behavioral rounds.
  5. 5Debrief: interviewers submit written feedback and a panel reaches a decision. This is reported on secondary career sites only, not by Apple.
  6. 6Offer. Long silences after the onsite are commonly described as normal at Apple rather than an implicit rejection, partly because debriefs wait on multiple stakeholders inside the team.

Claims about Apple you will find elsewhere, and what they are worth

Apple attracts more invented assessment content than almost any employer, because it publishes nothing to contradict it.

  1. 1"Apple uses SHL OPQ32 via TalentCentral" — appears on one prep site which, on inspection, cites no Apple page, no SHL page and no linked candidate report. Unsupported.
  2. 2"Apple uses pymetrics" — traces to one prep site sentence saying mock interviews simulate "platforms like HireVue, Sonru, and Pymetrics", which is not a claim about Apple at all, and which miscategorizes pymetrics as a video platform. Unsupported.
  3. 3"Apple uses Sonru" — named by the same site with no citation. Unsupported.
  4. 4"Apple India campus drives include a 90-120 minute HackerRank or Codility test plus aptitude" — asserted only by Indian job aggregators and prep sites; no primary campus source was reachable and no Apple posting mentions a test. Unconfirmed.
  5. 5"Apple uses HireVue for retail" — contradicted by recent retail accounts, which describe live group and panel interviews with no recorded stage.
  6. 6Anything describing HireVue facial-expression scoring is out of date: HireVue no longer uses facial analysis in scoring.

When is the Apple assessment?

Apple does not run a dated graduate scheme, so there is no single deadline and no common assessment window to plan around. Roles are posted per team and recruited rolling, which makes "apply as soon as the role appears" the only useful timing advice. Everything below was checked in September 2026.

CycleApplication datesLikely assessment windowEvidence
All Apple roles, year-roundNo published deadline on any Apple postingNo assessment stageOfficial source

Apple publishes no application deadline anywhere. Internship listings we checked in September 2026 carried posting dates spread from late August to mid-September 2026 and offered a submit button with no closing date, no stated process and no assessment. Because postings can close once filled, applying in the first days a role appears is materially better than applying late.

Source: jobs.apple.com internship search, checked September 2026

Summer internships: roughly autumn for the following summerVaries per posting; rolling, never centrally publishedNo assessment stageSingle source

Secondary career sites describe team postings for the following summer appearing from roughly August to October and continuing into the new year, which makes autumn the strongest window to be watching the board. That is a pattern claim from career sites, not an Apple statement — the live listings are the only thing that settles it, and the 68 internship postings we saw in September 2026 are consistent with an autumn wave rather than proof of one.

Source: Secondary career-site pattern claim; cross-checked against live jobs.apple.com postings, September 2026

Retail: application to decisionRolling; seasonal intakes concentrate ahead of the holiday periodNo assessment stageSingle source

Commonly described as closing within about two to four weeks, with reported averages of around a month from application to hire. Seasonal retail contracts are short and fixed-term, which is why seasonal hiring concentrates in the autumn. These figures come from candidate-report aggregation rather than from Apple.

Corporate and engineering: first contact to decisionRollingNo assessment stageSingle source

Typically four to eight weeks from first contact to decision, and reported to stretch to three or four months. Silence after the onsite is commonly described as normal rather than as a rejection, because loops are team-owned and debriefs wait on several people inside the team. Secondary sources only; Apple publishes no timeline.

AppleCare and At-Home Advisor: application to startRolling. The US Apple Support College Program filter returned no open roles in September 2026, suggesting academic-year cyclesWhere a recorded video interview is used, it sits early — after the recruiter screen and before the live interviewAnecdotal

Support hiring runs long. Aggregated candidate accounts put application to start at roughly two to three months, including background check, equipment shipping and a paid training program. UK Services apprenticeshipsReported to have a short fixed window, but we could not access the listing to confirm the dates or even the yearNot statedAnecdotal

A third-party graduate site describes a UK apprenticeship intake covering Project Management and Marketing roles with a narrow application window. That page returned HTTP 403 when we tried to fetch it, so the dates exist only as search-result text with no established year. How to practice for the Apple assessment

Apple preparation is unusual on this site because there is no assessment to drill. No games, no aptitude battery, no personality questionnaire that anyone can evidence. That frees up all of your preparation time for the thing Apple actually screens on, which is how you talk — in a live room in retail, on a recorded webcam in some support roles, and across a long technical loop in corporate.

Work out which of the three Apple paths you are on before you prepare anything, because they share almost nothing. Retail is a live group interview about customers and teamwork. Support may add a recorded video interview, though the evidence for it is dated. Corporate is live coding and a team-owned onsite. Your invitation email is the only document that tells you which stages you are actually facing, and Apple has published nothing that would contradict it.

Step 1

Do not practice games for Apple

There is no Apple game battery. If you are also applying to employers that do run one — the pymetrics, Arctic Shores, Aon, HireVue and Criteria employers elsewhere on this site — practice those on their own pages, and keep Apple out of that bucket. Time spent on a game battery for an Apple application is time taken from the interview preparation that actually decides it.

Step 2

Retail: rehearse for a room with other candidates in it

The group interview is the stage that surprises people. Prepare short, concrete answers to why Apple, a time you supported a colleague on a busy floor, a customer experience you turned around, and how you read what a customer actually needs. Practice being concise: in a group format you get a fraction of the airtime you would in a one-on-one, and the person who answers in 45 focused seconds reads better than the person who takes three minutes. Expect role-play of a customer interaction, and expect availability and flexibility questions if the role is seasonal.

Step 3

Support: record yourself once before the real thing

If a recorded video interview appears, it is roughly three to five questions with about 30 seconds to prepare and up to three minutes to answer, commonly one take. Prepare your relationship with Apple products, your customer service philosophy, explaining something technical simply to a non-technical customer, a time you handled an upset customer, and how you work independently from home. Our Apple video interview question page at /hirevue/questions/apple has the researched question set; our mock interview tool lets you practice recorded answers under a clock.

Step 4

Corporate: prepare for the team, not for "Apple"

Loops are team-owned, so read the job description as the syllabus. Drill data structures and algorithms live on a shared editor with someone watching, because reasoning aloud is half of what is scored. At senior levels add system design. Then prepare real depth on your own past projects — the team interviewing you wrote its own questions, and project depth is where team-specific loops tend to bite.

Step 5

Treat every unsourced Apple assessment claim as noise

You will be told Apple sends SHL personality questionnaires, pymetrics games, Sonru video tests or HackerRank coding tests. Every one of those traces back to a prep site that cites nothing. If your actual invitation names one of them, believe the invitation — and tell us, because that would be the first real evidence any of them exists.

Step 6

Sit the live stages without AI help

Apple’s interview policy is reported to prohibit AI assistants during live interviews, coding exercises and take-home work. Practice with any tool you like beforehand; use nothing during the real thing.

Step 7

Apply the day the posting appears

Apple publishes no deadlines and closes postings when they are filled. The FDP listing we tried to fetch had already expired. Watching jobs.apple.com for your team and applying immediately beats any preparation advantage you could build by waiting a week.

Apple assessment FAQ

Does Apple use game-based assessments?

No. We found no evidence of any game-based assessment at Apple — no pymetrics, no Arctic Shores, no Aon, no Criteria Cognify or Emotify, and no HireVue game battery. No Apple page, no vendor case study and no candidate report supports one. Sites offering Apple game practice are preparing you for a stage that nothing suggests exists.

Does Apple use pymetrics?

No evidence at all. The claim traces to a single prep-site sentence saying mock interviews simulate "platforms like HireVue, Sonru, and Pymetrics" — which is not a statement that Apple uses pymetrics, and which also miscategorizes pymetrics as a video-interview platform. Apple has never named pymetrics and no candidate report mentions it.

Does Apple use HireVue?

Partly, and the honest answer needs both halves. An Apple-branded HireVue tenant is live — apple.hirevue.com returns HTTP 200 from HireVue’s production app, which we verified in September 2026 — so Apple is provisioned on HireVue. But the candidate reports naming it cluster on AppleCare At-Home Advisor and the Apple Support College Program and run 2017 to 2022, and we found no clearly dated 2024-2026 first-person report for any role. It is a recorded video interview, never a game. Do not assume you will get one.

Does Apple retail use a video interview or an online test?

Not on any evidence we could find. Recent retail accounts describe a recruiter screen by phone or video, then a live group interview of roughly 45 to 60 minutes with several candidates together, then a conversation with a store leader. No recorded video stage and no test appears anywhere in them.

Does Apple send an SHL or OPQ32 personality test?

One prep site says so. We fetched that page and it cites no Apple page, no SHL page, no screenshot and no linked candidate report — only unlinked, paraphrased forum quotes. No Apple listing mentions a personality questionnaire. We treat it as unverified and would not prepare for it.

What is the Apple HireVue video interview like, where it is used?

Roughly three to five questions, about 30 seconds to prepare each answer and up to three minutes to record, commonly one take. Themes reported are why Apple and your relationship with its products, customer service and empathy, explaining something technical simply, handling a frustrated customer, and working independently from home. Our researched question set is at /hirevue/questions/apple. HireVue no longer uses facial analysis in scoring.

When are Apple application deadlines?

There are none published. Apple does not run a dated graduate scheme with one deadline and one assessment window — roles are posted per team on jobs.apple.com and recruited rolling. Internship listings we checked in September 2026 carried posting dates across late August to mid-September with no closing date. Apply as soon as a role you want appears, because postings close when filled.

How long does the Apple process take?

Retail is commonly described as closing in about two to four weeks. Corporate and engineering typically run four to eight weeks from first contact and are reported to stretch to three or four months, with long post-onsite silences described as normal because loops are team-owned. AppleCare can take two to three months to a start date once training and equipment shipping are included. All of these are candidate-report figures; Apple publishes no timeline.

Why doesn’t this page list any games to practice?

Because listing one would be dishonest. Our rule is that a practice game only appears on an employer page when there is evidence the employer actually uses that format. For Apple there is none, so the games section is empty on purpose. Spend the time on recorded-answer practice if you are in support, and on live interview practice for retail or corporate.
