Common questions
What is the UCAT Verbal Reasoning format?
The standard section has 44 questions associated with 11 passages, with four questions per passage. There are 22 minutes of answering time after a separate 90-second instruction screen. Questions include True, False and Can’t Tell and four-option questions. Answer using the passage, without relying on prior subject knowledge.
Is this practice for the whole UCAT?
This product covers Verbal Reasoning only, the reading section of the medical and dental admissions UCAT. It does not include Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning or Situational Judgement. It is also separate from the Criteria assessment that uses the name UCAT.
What does the practice pass include?
One UCAT Verbal Reasoning pass covers the full 44-question practice test and unlimited replays of all four verbal drills during your chosen period. If your account includes a free first attempt, it applies once to each drill. Different timing settings share the same full-test access. Other assessment categories require their own pass.
When do I see the answers?
In short drills, submit all four questions for a passage before viewing their explanations. This keeps an explanation from giving away another question on the same passage. In the full timed test, correctness and explanations stay hidden until you finish or the timer expires. Completed reviews remain free to reopen.
Can I skip questions and return to them?
Yes. During the full practice test, you can move backward or forward, flag a question, and use the navigator to return to unanswered or flagged questions while time remains. Your choices can be changed before the test ends. The clock continues during review and while you are away from the page.
What is the difference between False and Can’t Tell?
False means the passage contradicts the statement. Can’t Tell means the passage does not provide enough information to decide. A statement can sound plausible, or match something you already know, without being supported by the passage.
Will I receive a UCAT score out of 900?
You receive a raw practice score, such as 35 out of 44, plus a breakdown of answers, topics and timing. We score every original practice question. We do not convert that result to the official 300–900 scale or predict admission. Our demanding practice goals are editorial targets, not official pass marks.
Are these official UCAT questions?
No. All passages and questions are original independent practice. The full test follows the published section length and timing, with our own question mix and difficulty labels. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the UCAT Consortium. The Consortium also provides free official preparation resources.
Can I practice with extra time?
The full practice offers the standard 22 minutes and answering-time settings of 27 minutes 30 seconds, 29 minutes 20 seconds, and 33 minutes. Each has the same 90-second instructions. Select the setting that matches your own preparation needs or approved arrangements. These settings do not grant official eligibility or simulate approved rest breaks; drills are untimed.
Do I need a calculator or medical knowledge?
No. Verbal Reasoning is based on written passages, and a calculator is not provided for this section. The official calculator is used in other UCAT sections. Our passages cover varied subjects, but each answer must be supported by the text supplied.
Can I resume an unfinished practice?
Your unfinished sitting is saved in this browser for your signed-in account. Reopen the same practice to resume it, using one practice tab at a time. Timed tests keep counting down while the page is closed or in the background. Once you finish and the save is confirmed, the original passage, answers and explanations are available in your account.
