ASVAB scores explained

AFQT uses Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension. It is reported from 1 to 99 as your position relative to the official reference population.

A 70 AFQT is not 70 correct answers or 70% accuracy. It indicates performance at least as high as 70% of that reference population.

Official subtest standard scores use a reference mean of 50 and standard deviation of 10. These numbers are on a standardized scale, not a count of the questions you answered correctly.

Computer testing adjusts item difficulty as you answer. Official calibration and score equating make scores comparable across test forms. A fixed-form practice bank cannot recreate those steps merely by using the same subject names.

Each service uses selected ASVAB subtest results in its own occupational qualification composites. Names and required combinations vary, so a score used for one service or job should not be treated as interchangeable with another.

Confirm current requirements using the service’s official recruiting information or your recruiter. A qualifying test score is one requirement; it does not by itself guarantee a particular job is available.

• Correct answers out of the complete planned question set.
• Subject breakdowns, with your original answers and explanations.
• Timing and a distinction between answered, skipped and unreached questions where the mode allows them.
• Personal trends for comparable modes and versions, with repeated material identified where applicable.
• Demanding provisional practice targets, clearly separate from official percentiles, service cutoffs and job eligibility.

An unfinished question remains in our planned-question denominator. If you get 12 questions right in a 15-question section and leave 3 unanswered, practice accuracy is 12/15, or 80%.

That is a deliberately conservative practice convention. It is not the official adaptive scoring or incomplete-subtest penalty. Check completion and timing as well as accuracy when comparing attempts.

Separate missing knowledge from misreading, arithmetic errors and time pressure. Two learners with the same total may need very different next sessions.

Check whether a stronger result holds across fresh question sets. Repeating a familiar answer is less informative than applying the method to a new problem. Treat the trend as preparation evidence, not a promised exam result.
