Bennett Mechanical practice
Work out how machines, forces and physical systems behave. Choose a short topic drill or a full timed practice test.
Before you start
- Read the diagram and assumptions carefully. Choose one of three answers. No calculator is needed for our practice questions.
- Submit your answer to see its explanation, then continue. Answers cannot be changed after feedback. Skipping records an unanswered question.
- There is no time limit. Study the worked diagram and the reasoning behind each option before moving on.
Our original practice uses an editorial mix of topics. It does not reproduce Pearson’s item bank, scoring scale or employer pass marks.
Free worked example · Balance a lever
A weightless horizontal beam pivots freely on the triangular support. A 20 N downward force acts 1 m to the left of the pivot. A second downward force acts 2 m to its right. Ignore friction; the drawing is schematic.
What downward force on the right would keep the beam balanced?
This separate example is free and does not use a practice attempt.
