Williams Racing Arctic Shores Assessment

Graduate Programme, industrial & summer placements, apprenticeships and work experience (Atlassian Williams F1 Team)

Williams Racing's own early-careers hub states that "Each application requires an Arctic Shores assessment" for its graduate, placement and apprenticeship programs, and 2025-cycle candidates confirm receiving Arctic Shores invitations. That makes Williams one of the few employers where the platform is named by the employer rather than inferred — but the hub names the vendor only once, in its application advice, and every individual program page calls the stage simply "Testing" or "Online assessment". Williams publishes nothing about which tasks you get, and Arctic Shores publishes nothing about Williams. Across three archived pages of the 2025-cycle candidate thread, the balance (weights) task is the only one named by more than one applicant, and both of them called it hard under time pressure. Candidates describe short game-like tasks of roughly five to ten minutes each, every one preceded by a practice round you can repeat as often as you like, followed a few hours later by a feedback report. The rest of the battery is genuinely unknown, so the honest preparation is to practice the balance task specifically and the full modern suite around it.

The process

  1. Stage 1 — Online application (CV + tailored cover letter)

Apply at careers.williamsf1.com with an up-to-date CV and a tailored cover letter. Graduates and placements can apply to a maximum of 2 roles per department, and Williams recommends focusing on one to two roles because each application carries its own assessment. Apprentices write a tailored 400-word cover letter and may apply to a maximum of 2 departments. The portal shows your status as “In Review”.

  2. Stage 2 — Online assessment (Arctic Shores)

Williams names Arctic Shores once, in the “Advice before applying” block on its early-careers hub; the graduate, placements, apprenticeship and work-experience pages each call this stage “Testing” or “Online assessment” and name no vendor. The hub says to complete it by the stated deadline, as extensions are only granted in exceptional circumstances, and that if you have already completed an assessment for another role you may be able to reuse your results provided all required assessment categories have been completed. Apprentices are told they will only be able to complete one test; work-experience applicants get one attempt within five days. Whether those single-attempt tests are the same Arctic Shores battery is not stated anywhere.

  3. Stage 3 — Online Group Task

Williams describes an online group task giving you the opportunity to meet the Early Careers team, assessed on how you contribute to a team, communicate under pressure, and work together. 2025-cycle candidates report it ran on Microsoft Teams: introductions (some sessions asked each candidate a motivation question in turn), then a collaborative problem-solving exercise observed by the hiring manager or early-careers team, with groups mixing candidates from different roles. One candidate was given only about two days’ notice for their slot.

  4. Stage 4 — Online competency interview with the hiring manager

If successful in the Online Group Task, an online competency interview where Williams learns more about your technical skills, strengths, and what excites you about the role. Technology & Innovation graduate candidates describe this as a technical interview.

  5. Stage 5 — Meet the team at Grove

If there is a match, you are invited to the Grove, Oxfordshire headquarters to meet your potential manager, explore the facilities, and take a look behind the scenes. Apprentices get a full assessment center at Grove instead: a competency interview, practical skill assessment, group exercise, and a Q&A session.

  6. Stage 6 — Outcome

Williams communicates your outcome and guides you through the next steps; graduate programs start every September with a full induction. Candidates report rejection emails can arrive while the portal still shows “In Review”, and that one 2025-cycle stream (Operations Graduate) was withdrawn mid-process due to a recent change in business direction.

  7. Work-experience variant — assessment, then a 3-minute video

The Engineering Work Experience Programme (Year 10-13 students plus, newly, first-year university students) runs a different shape: application, then an online assessment that can only be taken once and must be completed within five days, then shortlisted candidates send a video application answering set questions in a 3-minute video within 7 days, with outcomes in early May. That page does not name the assessment vendor; the hub’s “each application” wording is the only link to Arctic Shores here.

Timing

For the 2027 intake, graduate, industrial placement and summer placement roles opened in Summer 2026 and the hub pages say to apply by 16 September 2026, 12:00 PM UK time (individual postings display no closing date of their own). Each role typically stays open for around two weeks, published at 12:00 PM UK time on the opening day. Assessment invitations are variable: some 2025-cycle candidates got theirs within a day of applying, while others in the same window were still waiting weeks later. Complete it by the deadline in your invitation, since extensions are only granted in exceptional circumstances. Apprenticeships open in December 2026; work experience opens early 2027 (the 2026 window ran 23 February to 6 March). Graduate programs run two years, sometimes three, starting every September.

Practice the reported Williams Racing tasks

Neither Williams nor Arctic Shores publishes the task list, and no candidate has posted a full one. Balance is the only task two different 2025-cycle applicants named independently — one asking how to pass the balance game, the other describing “the game with the weights” by its mechanic. Beyond that, the rest of the battery is unknown: one candidate asked in a public thread whether it also included order, direction, expressions, security and team sales, and received no answer, so we do not list those as Williams tasks. We also cannot tell you how many tasks Williams configures. Practice Balance first, then work through the full modern suite so nothing in your invitation is new.

Common questions

Does Williams Racing definitely use Arctic Shores?

Yes, for early careers. Williams's own early-careers hub states that "Each application requires an Arctic Shores assessment", which is about as direct as employer evidence gets, and 2025-cycle candidates confirm receiving Arctic Shores invitations. Note the limits: the vendor is named once, in the application advice block, while the individual graduate, placement, apprenticeship and work-experience pages just say "Testing" or "Online assessment". Experienced-hire postings carry no assessment text at all and we found no candidate report of one, so assume nothing there. A separate Workday-based process with a 72-hour psychometric test shows up in 2023-24 era postings; that format predates the current careers site and is not the process you will meet.

Which Arctic Shores games does Williams use?

Only one is actually reported: the balance task, where you weigh objects on scales and rank them. Two different 2025-cycle candidates named it independently and both found it hard under time pressure. That is the whole verified list, and it should look thin, because Williams and Arctic Shores both publish nothing. One candidate did ask in a public thread whether the set was balance, order, direction, expressions, security and team sales, but nobody answered, so we will not pass that guess off as a task list. We also cannot tell you how many tasks Williams runs. Practice Balance, then the rest of the suite as insurance.

When do Williams Racing applications close for the 2027 intake?

The early-careers, graduate and placements hubs say to apply by 16 September 2026, 12:00 PM UK time, for graduate, industrial placement and summer placement roles. Individual job postings do not display a closing date of their own, so the hub is the deadline to trust. Roles typically stay open for around two weeks each and are published at 12:00 PM UK time on their opening day, so a role you spot late may already be close to closing. Apprenticeships open in December 2026, and the Engineering Work Experience Programme opens early 2027 after a 2026 window that ran 23 February to 6 March.

Can I reuse my Arctic Shores results across Williams applications?

Sometimes. The hub says that if you have already completed an assessment for another role with Williams, you may be able to reuse your results, provided all required assessment categories have been completed. In practice that is why Williams caps you at 2 roles per department and recommends focusing on one to two roles: each application requires its own assessment, and reuse only covers you when the categories line up. Apprentices are told outright that they will only be able to complete one test, and work-experience applicants get a single attempt within five days.

What score do I need to pass, and what does the feedback report look like?

No pass mark is published, and the evidence suggests there is not a simple one. Candidates in the 2025 cycle described a feedback report arriving a few hours after finishing, scoring around six categories from 1 to 4, and they traded those scores in a public thread: applicants with mostly 3/4 and 4/4 results were still rejected in an earlier cycle, so the assessment is weighted alongside the CV and cover letter rather than acting as a pure cut-off. Anyone quoting you a Williams pass score is making it up. Treat the report format as unconfirmed too, because Arctic Shores's own candidate guidance instead describes feedback on a 1-10 spectrum, so the 1-4 scale is what those candidates saw rather than how the platform works everywhere. We are not naming the individual scored categories, because no category name survives checking against the archived thread. Williams offers adjustments at every stage and says you do not need to provide evidence to request one.

What comes after the assessment?

An online group task on Microsoft Teams, where you introduce yourself (some sessions ask each candidate a motivation question in turn) and then solve a problem collaboratively while the hiring manager or early-careers team observes. Candidates report short notice for slots, as little as two days in one case. If you pass that, an online competency interview with the hiring manager covers technical skills, strengths and what excites you about the role, and Technology & Innovation candidates describe it as a technical interview. Then a visit to Grove to meet your potential manager and see the factory, and finally your outcome. Apprentices replace the Grove visit with a full assessment center: competency interview, practical skill assessment, group exercise and Q&A.
