Alva Logic practice

Work out how each figure changes across the rows and down the columns. Then choose the one missing figure that fits both rules.

Choose your sitting

Before you start

  • Choose one of six options, then select Submit answer. A selection alone does not count.
  • Once submitted, an answer cannot be changed. There is no skip-and-return.
  • Each question has its own two-minute limit. If time runs out before you submit, it is recorded as unanswered, even if an option is selected.
  • Select Continue when you are ready for the next question. In this practice, you can take a break between questions.

The question timer continues in background tabs and after reloads. There is no overall countdown. Answers and explanations stay hidden until you finish.

Questions begin with three increasing practice levels, then adjust using our editorial difficulty rules. This is adaptive-style practice, not Alva’s adaptive algorithm or scoring system. The between-question breaks are our practice controls.

Try two examples before you start

These two original examples are untimed and unscored. Check the rows and columns, choose an answer in your head, then reveal the method. Opening examples does not use your free sitting.

Answer E

Across the rows: At each step to the right in the large matrix, move every mark one small position right, wrapping to the other side after the edge. Shape and fill do not change.

Down the columns: At each step down in the large matrix, move every mark one small position up, wrapping to the other side after the edge. Shape and fill do not change.

Apply the row rule to the two shown figures in the bottom row. Independently apply the column rule to the two shown figures in the rightmost column. Both checks give this exact arrangement: top left: outlined triangle; bottom left: outlined triangle.

Across the rows: In every row, each of the three shapes appears once, and each of the three shown small positions is occupied once. Complete these two distributions separately; fill stays fixed.

Down the columns: In every column, each of the three shapes appears once, and each of the three shown small positions is occupied once. Complete these two distributions separately; fill stays fixed.

Apply the row rule to the two shown figures in the bottom row. Independently apply the column rule to the two shown figures in the rightmost column. Both checks give this exact arrangement: top right: filled circle.
